So yeah, I haven't been collecting for a while, but I just got back into it and I'm doing REALLY well now.
To start, last saturday I picked up a few genesis titles. Nothing special, no incredible deals here..
Bubsy for $7 - I wouldn't buy this game unless I had an actual use for it. I'm doing a "Bubsy with lyrics" video this summer about its failure and the live-action sequences require a real cart.
Taz in escape from mars for $4 - This is a fun, cheap, common game. picked it up to get a break from sonic and his many clones.
Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's hidden treasure for $5: Almost common. Kickass platformer. Sonic clone? kinda. It's a lot more freeroaming and REALLY long for a licensed game and genesis game, clocking in at 33 levels. Rarityguide lists it for $11 so perhaps I got a steal.
Now here's where the good stuff came in. before I left Complete in Box, I saw they had an event going on. Donate $5 to relay for life and you can pick up all the stuff you want from a bin. I looked through and then jumped right on it. just a few of the things I got include:
-A first party GC remote
-A first party PS1 remote
-A working eyetoy
-A PSP ripoff of brain age and a few video UMDs
-a DSIXL case for my gameboy brick
-Nintendo brand headphones
-PS2 demo discs
-PS1 sports games (only picked em up to use as swapdiscs for my PS1)
-PS2 games (something with tanks and a survival horror game called "exterminate")
and then...the good stuff.
A fully working genesis six-button remote with turbo-slow and assignable shoulder buttons, seen here:
And...THIS thing. The Air Racer "3D optical controller" for PS1/2, N64 and PC.
Let me tell you now. I did NOT expect this thing to work when I grabbed it last second. And even if it DID work, I didn't expect it to "work". Boy, was I wrong.
Once I got this thing hooked up and popped in a driving game, holy shit. It's easily as responsive as a wiimote if not more, all the buttons can be remapped, and, ugly as it is, it's comfortable to hold. I could actually beat a few levels of crash bandicoot with it too! (using motion instead of the analog/DPAD)
And it's from 1998.
Apparently this thing is really rare and fetches prices of $30 at the lowest right now. I think I'll hang onto it.
BUT IT'S NOT OVER YET!
I also managed to pick up a game gear lot off of ebay for $10 plus $3 shipping. What was inside this lot?
Another copy of sonic 2...
Sonic Spinball for GG....
and...the big one...
an IMPORT of sonic labyrinth for game gear!
Yes, haters of labyrinth, scowl all you want, but this sucker is RARE. It's worth around $25 and this was too good to pass up.
All the carts do work, but labyrinth is a little picky. You have to tilt it up on the right side to get it to boot, then push it down in and reset the game gear .after that she works like a charm.
CiB's big sale is on July 21st, but I'm selling a few excess items I don't need next week at a flea market (some from the CiB $5 donation lot like the eyetoy, which I already have one of and some stuff I already had and don't need) so I may get a chance to look around there.
TIll then, recorderdude (yes, personuser on the site. I kick myself daily for employing this name) signing off!
