I think I should keep my current 3DS

Hello GBAtemp! I know, this isn't my usual question or rant or whatever else i post on the forums. But, I just wanted to explain a few things about why I won't want a 3DS XL. No offence to anyone who is buying or have bought one.
  • At first, I thought it was all a rumor. This was because the system looked way too smooth to be a real Nintendo 3DS. Also, my first impressions on the photos was that they were all photo shopped. This was until I saw a display box of a 3DS XL at my local EB Games shop.

I'm sorry that I can't get a smaller image, but Google wasn't giving me much luck. This is just a size and looks comparison.
  • I can't play my games well enough on a controller that doesn't let my left and right hands touch each other while I use my two fingers to play the game.
  • I feel way too happy with my current system. No design flaws. No system software, SD card software or Nintendo DS/3DS card software problems besides an occasional crash while I look at photos of my friends.

  • It looks a bit too close to a DSi XL. I'm not a big fan of the DSi XL, especially since it's like the 3DS XL. Just an extra large version of it's original system. No improvements.
  • Old DS games might be all pixelated and blurry. I don't mind this on a Nintendo 3DS, but the XL might cause problems.
  • Like the GBA Micro (GameBoy Micro) It could just be a thing for Nintendo to try and get more money before their console dies and they have to think of and make something new!
  • I just don't like wide screen's on a system that is designed to be portable. My current 3DS can fit in my pockets easily. An XL could break my pockets!
  • It just isn't a nice idea to me!
I'm not trying to go against Nintendo here, but it's just that I think Nintendo really needs to do something better than XL consoles. In my opinion, Nintendo are a good company, but sometimes their products are just way too kiddie (rarely any games that someone like me will like!) and when they want their last $400 they either do a console so small, you feel bad playing it or one too big, you don't know what to do with it! Please don't criticize me. I just don't like the idea of XL consoles, it seems to be a thing for Nintendo at the moment.

There are some improvements in the XL. When you start up a game, like I did with Spirit Tracks, I found myself to be more immersed in the game because of the bigger screen. Nothing was cluttered or anything. And the audio in the XL were amazing. Even though they were just the same speakers and hardware from the original DSi, when you go to the XL it's a hell of a difference.

The reason why I bought the 3DS XL is because to me, some games need it. I was having trouble playing Kingdom Hearts on the normal 3DS, and that's because I found the screen to be too tiny for that type of game. Now I bought an XL, and the game has sucked me in more, I like it. But I've kept my original 3DS for portability.

I completely agree with Shadow Soldier in every way. I have both systems as well, and I'm happy with both.
In my opinion I don't think Nintendo should stop producing XL versions of portable consoles. After all I think everyone's happy so long as both consoles exist.

Also DS games don't look as blurry as I thought. On the original 3DS I always held start/select to play DS games in original res, because when stretched it was far too blurry. On the XL it looks just fine when stretched, though I'm not quite sure why. Maybe it's the increased distance from my face.

Those aren't design flaws. If anything, the regular 3DS had flaws.

The regular 3DS had wide-screens too (16:9). Games won't be pixelated since it's the same resolution.

The XL consoles are great and huge improvements over the original. Big screens breathe new life into 3DS games.

I'd imagine that even with DS games not stretched on the XL, the "regular" resolution in relation to the increased size of the XL may actually match the "stretched" mode on the regular 3DS, and the "regular" resolution comes with no blurring. Sounds more like a win-win situation to me.

Only reason to get an XL is if you're over 70 or under 5.
I don't see the point in carrying around a small, limited and weak laptop like a 3DS XL when you can just carry the portable version for cheaper and have it do the same thing.

Ninty just knows morons will buy an XL even though they already have a regular 3DS.
Ninty likes money, and their fans know how to deliver.

If you have a 3DS then don't buy a 3DS XL.
I mean there is no reason to buy it, its just the big screen but with the big screen you have the BIG pixels.
They are really big and sometimes i ask myself ''Why didn't i bought a normal 3DS?? ''
If you are new to 3DS then buy the XL, if not then just skip it.
its just the big screen but with the big screen you have the BIG pixels.
Which, according to owners of the XL, is not a problem because they are still quite small for the average user. Plus, the sweet spot for the 3D effect has been confirmed by XL users to be larger, which is probably due to the larger screen and improved parallax technology.

That was also kind of what I was thinking!

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.
