Dariusburst rules!

Is this what the cool kids do?
I've never been a blogging person but I thought I'd give it a try.
I've really been getting into this game named Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours.

After weeks of practice (here and there), I finally managed to beat the gigantic boss named Great Thing.
I was so happy when I first killed it, this is probably the most rewarding game I've played in a very long time.
It doesn't hold your hand nor are there easy save points or retries— if you die you have to restart all over again, just like in the 90s!
It all depends on your own skills, reflexes and learning capabilities.

Every time you play you learn something (hopefully). The stages can be really unfair at first and you're pretty much guaranteed to die until you understand how a certain scenario works.
It's pretty much Nintendo-hard in that way.

The boss in question is a beast. Just look at its name: it doesn't even have one, they just call it "Great Thing." That's when you know you're in deep shit.
And its theme music, it's absolutely glorious. Just listen to it, you can't possibly dislike that.

In general, the Darius series has excellent music. The entire Dariusburst Another Chronicle soundtrack is wonderful, G-Darius has some seriously great songs too (in particular Kimera II, Adam, G Zero— can be found on YouTube).

Anyway, the boss used to shred me at first. I couldn't even last in the ring with it one minute, its patterns are simply brutal. If I managed to beat it in an easy mission (the game has varying difficulty conditions), I would usually take so much damage during it that the next zones would finish me off.

After a load of effort, I managed to overcome it and I actually feel I got a decent grasp on the fight now.
I felt so satisfied, I made a video because I wanted to share. Feel free to take a look. Shameless plug.

At any rate, this game is great! It really requires good reflexes and hand-eye coordination though, so I can imagine it's not for everyone. But on the other hand, I bet playing this regularly would keep those parts you utilize sharp, as well. Or it might even improve them. I know I'm getting better at this the more I play it.

And hey, once you get used to playing Darius, stuff like Dota or LoL will seem like it's played in slow-motion in comparison. ;)

That's it. Might do another blog or do it regularly if I have more things to share.
Kudos if you've read this far!

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.
