Just met a buyer for my laptop, something doesnt seem right

So yea, I just met a buyer for my laptop
i asked for 1300$, he started laughing.
he tells me he found the exact same laptop on kijiji for 1000$ and 1050$
2 offers
I asked him to show me, they were there
he offered me 800$
I declined immediatly, it was ridiculous
now hes gone, so I tryed to find the 2 offer on kijiji, couldnt find them at all

Now I'm recontacting him, to get the link, he doesnt seem like he want to share
I think he made fake ads from a fraud site
Now hes saying hes going to meet the other buyer
that hes gonna send me pic of the computer he will see next

sounds like a fraud right?

Who cares?
You already rejected his offer (I would've done the same).
Now let him go with his "cool story bro" about cheap computers elsewhere.
Quite probably it was this person that made the fake ads and was trying to make you sell for cheap.
Or perhaps he really found some idiot that is willing to sell the notebook for next to nothing, in that case good for him.
Let him go, look for another potential buyer. Don't lose more time thinking about it.

i knew he was trying to scam you when "he started laughing". i wouldnt waste any more time on him. if he was serious, he wouldnt have laughed, instead he wouldve told you about other offers he has seen and some kind of proof of those offers.

How is that a fraud, tell me?
Are you seriously thinking someone would pay the full price on used products?

I mean come one. Who would spend time making fake ads just to "fraud"? This is very unlikely it happened.

Right click price, click inspect element, type whatever you like in, save page as, open page (as mentioned on a device totally within your control), repeat for another page if you want.
45 seconds of basically no effort for/to save $500? I would. Some might say it is a bit underhanded but at all points it is completely within the seller's remit to say "I decline your offer" so yeah.

I'm pretty sure that lying is fraud. If I tell you that I sell this PC for the lowest price on the internet and you edit a pic to show a page that doesn't exist to deceive me, it's fraud.

Fraud is a specific action though and I can't see a slightly enhanced version of "I can do better elsewhere, do you want to match it?" as fraud, or indeed any kind of misdeed.

It is a bit underhanded but no different than any other high pressure or otherwise psychologically manipulative sales technique when all is said and done. From what has been said there were no threats or anything of that nature.
Going further then I could see some stuff of kind of similar spec being close to that price -- with that Asus ROG stuff you are more or less paying for the badge (compare say the Dell refurb line https://www.dellrefurbished.ca/laptops?filter_processor_brand=371 ).

Laugh it off and carry on.

I'm glad you both had some idea of the top market value and were in a position where you could hold out for it. That is good.

Throwing around terms like fraud for this is not though.

if he said $1050 for the one, and he offered $800, u should have said the price is $1000

Remember when RiiShop was a thing?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    not really
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
