Nintendo and their Terrible Names for the Consoles

First and foremost: This is not a topic about trolling or bashing Nintendo simply want to understand why they keep making the same mistake over and over again.

The Wii was an okay name and people got it by its meaning but then a couple years later Nintendo released the Wii U, which still to this day is a mystery to some people and now the newly revised 3DS will be called the New 3DS, this is all such a fuck up not only for Nintendo but also for the customers.

2012: In Wii U's case Nintendo could have made use of their Wii codename which was Revolution, and that alone had been way better to be known as than it is officially [Wii U].

2014: Nintendo revealed that they're releasing a new Nintendo 3DS system and while that's somewhat exciting the name is just terrible, instead of calling it the Super 3DS (or Super Nintendo 3DS) they decided to go with New 3DS, it's like they're doing this on purpose to confuse the customers and annoy the fans.

So around 2018 we can expect a new Nintendo home console since they tend to give their consoles a lifespan of 6 years or so, and that time please don't do another fuck up, Nintendo.

P.S.: I didn't bring up the name "2DS" because it's fitting due to only showing the games in 2D (normal vision).

Also because Nintendo didn't advertise it well to the public. In its first year, many people confused it as an upgrade for the Wii. :/

No real 3D Mario/Zelda? Wat. What happened to Super Mario 3D World? It's basically a 3D Mario game with some nice multiplayer. And what happened to Wind Waker HD and the recently announced Zelda Wii U?

I still have to tell people that the Wii U isn't the Gamepad on a Wii. It happened just a few weeks ago. While definitely not the main reason it's doing poorly, he name IS an issue. It's confusing.

I remember when the name was announced on E3, the chat box next to the live stream filled with nothing but swear words for like 30 seconds.

i dont believe in that first thing. such nonsense. a lack of ads, might very well be a problem factor, but the three grandparents having no idea what the wiiu is really doesnt matter. and noone was confused about the xbox one

real 3d mario, no fixed cameras and such. a game like mario 64, sunshine or galaxy. zelda, not remakes. not series crossovers. new mario and zelda should have been there either at day one or during the first year. waiting about 3 years to get these games out really was a terrible idea

I too remember a lady asking me if her son could play the game cards on the GamePad without anything else.

Actually the Wii U failed because Shigeru Miyamoto forgot to renew his contract with Cthulhu, so he stopped using his powers of an Elder God to control the masses into overlooking their silly system titles, thus causing the ignorant masses to only see half the title and thus assuming it was the same system as before and then bought the PS4 because Sony was smart enough to renew their contract.
Dis is fact.

Only name of theirs I ever thought was terrible was the Wii U. Nintendo 64 was pretty weak too, but it was at the tail end of the bit-wars so it kind of makes sense and worked for the time. I don't care how well the console is doing or not, it could be selling off the shelves and I'd still say the name Wii U is dumb. New 3DS doesn't really bother me because that's essentially what it is, just a new 3DS. Its existence isn't going to stop production on all 3DS games that are playable on current 3DS systems, it will just receive a few exclusives and offere additional features in benefits on games that will work with the older models, I mean what else do you name that? It's similar to the Game Boy Color, but color was a logical addition to that name, what do you call the new 3DS? The 3DS 2.0? I mean, it's kind of an oddity of a piece of hardware as it is, and I don't think its slightly different name is going to hurt the sales of the handheld, there is already definitely interest in the thing, and frankly I don't find the name stupid in the same way that I find the name Wii U to be.

Hey, at least you gotta give them some credit for at least changing the name for each console, instead of just adding consecutive numerals to their name.
(Yeah, you know who I am refering to)

Seriously though, you know why Nintendo is really failing? Not because of the name because both Sony and M$ have shitty named systems, but because of piss poor third party support, long dry periods without games, and horrible advertising, mixed with how bad they treat online reviewers/letplayer, and they are basically cutting off their own foot.
The Wii U could have easily supported games like GTAV and Destiny, but they didn't get those, the games like Watch_Dogs got delayed so long that no one is going to buy that shit. Nintendo is treating this system like the Wii 2 instead of a Wii U, they could have easily been able to get newer 3rd party games being that they all already support systems like the PS3 and XB360, but instead Nintendo didn't even attempt to get them.
They even missed an opportunity to buy out Minecraft and just let M$ buy them out. Nintendo is taking zero risks, hell they are taking less than zero risks. They are playing so safe, that it's actually killing them.
Then of course they only advertise for games like a week at best in advance, building up very little hype for the games. Sure they have their little Nintendo direct, but you know who that's attracting? The same damn people, no one new, thus not building up any new hype. Games like Assassin's Creed literally started putting up ads an entire year before the game came out, Nintendo just put up an ad for Smash Brothers. Then they go around youtube taking down videos left and right causing people not to want to showcase Nintendo games, which only blocks that market.
Nintendo is killing themselves, the only ones to blame for their failure is themselves.

Did people get confuse SNES and NES when they came out ? Names are also similar.

In 2018 Nintendo's next console : Wii Thrii.

I don't think the name alone can make a console fail, it can add to its failure though.
