If by FAT you mean FAT16, that's not an option since his HDD is 640GB. He could only fit a handful of games on it anyway.

I wasn't correcting you, I just wasn't sure what you meant. You said "HBC tend to prefer" which suggests that there is an alternative to using a FAT system. It doesn't prefer it, it demands it. That's why I thought you meant FAT16 (often called FAT).

Could you install HD Tune (http://www.hdtune.com/) and do a benchmark with that drive (read test)? If its slow on your PC too, then its the drive/controller.(If not sure, post screenshot/results here)

I'm on Linux so I can't install that program,but I did other tests and all is ok. The HD works perfectly with my PC and in the other port

Sorry to bump this old thread but I recently solved my problem.
I tried everythng, even restoring Nand via bootmii (i have it as boot2) but there was nothing to do.
USB Port 0 was busted, so after many long searches I installed Uloader and hermes cios 5.1 and set the loader to use Port 1 instead of Port 0.
Now everything works and I'm once angain a happy guy!!!

640GB is plenty of space man. Each game at max 7GB, do 640/7, and that's about 91 games you can fit on 640GB at the least!
