Hi there and thank you for your help regarding a previous issue with loading Wii roms.

I reckon there are a few Wii roms using certain IOS requiring a different cIOS to be installed or different setting to be able to run properly.

I am not sure where to find information on which IOS:es are regarded and if there is a list of known games that might use this kind of IOS:es.

ANyway, tried running a game (Peppa the Pig [RPGPPN]) with apparently IOS 53 according to Wii Backup Manager. When running it starts up and enters a black screen with flashing black and gray lines. Soft Reset or any other button does not work at all, only hard resetting or pulling the plug. The other roms on the USB drive works flawlessly.

Tried running it on my PC with Dolphin and it starts up as it should.

Hence thinking it might be one of these roms that require some proper setting or other CIOS.

Is there any more kind of information you could extract from the rom that could help with making a proper setup?

Post a syscheck here.
Btw, ios is not the same as cIOS, most Wii games work fine with cIOS 249/250 or 251, you should change the game ios in USBLoaderGX to 249 and test again.

Turned out it was already set to 249, tried setting to 250, still the same. Flickering lines. Here's the syscheck btw.

Have you changed the video mode settings? For best compatibility, video mode should be set to disc default and VIDTV patch turned off. Check it in the global and per game settings. Some games will just not work if the video settings are not what they expect. For US peeps it's best to stick to USA releases, since a lot of USA TVs don't support PAL but most PAL TVs support NTSC so disc default should work fine for you even with USA releases. Still, I prefer to stick to PAL region games on a PAL console and TV, to ensure there won't be any compatibility issues.

Already had the latest release installed but thank you for suggesting it anyway.

I will try to look into the video settings. It should be a PAL game and both the console and TV is AFAIK PAL. I have been running a few Japanese games without any issues though.

Syscheck looks correct. make sure to verify the hash of the wbfs file (game) in WiiBackupManager, to make sure it's not corrupt.

It looks like a shovelware game that's been problematic for over a decade. Although some people did get it working with the Hermes cIOS.

I'll look into this more later today.

Alright, the video settings were already set to Disc default (Video Mode) and Off for VIDTV Patch.

Hash check was fine, no corruption.

It says partition UG compared to the other games with only partition G, that's the only difference I can find

"The metaphor implies that the creators showed little care for the quality of the original software, as if the new compilation or version had been created by indiscriminately adding titles "by the shovel" in the same way someone would shovel bulk material into a pile. "

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shovelware

Edit; partition UG means it has both game and updates partitions in the game image

Shovelware game, meaning it's probably not well optimized for the Wii (even on disc), and any odd behavior could throw off usbloadergx and impact the game's performance..
Oh, okay, that makes sense in case it does not work. I wonder how it sold on the shelves back then.
I guess I wont expect the game to run at all since all settings are optimized.

Should I put it like "case closed" perhaps?

Most don't perform well, though it doesn't mean that they don't work at all..

You might want to try with another game loader like WiiFlow Lite, as it could be an issue with USBLoaderGX. Try with Wiiflow Lite to know for sure.
Post automatically merged:

Also, i somehow missed this, but it could also be the usb flash drive (if you're using one), probably not if you're using a fat32 formatted external hdd. Just something to keep in mind.

Restore the loader to it's default settings and then before you start the game go into it's settings and turn off the 480p patch. That should get the game booting.

In future updates you won't need to do this.
