Video games are often compartmentalized with electronics in general. So they don't have "video game people" but "electronics" people.
Also blue collar jobs work like that. I work as a cashier at a grocery store and they somewhat recently put me in some shifts in our produce department. I get people ask me what the best tomato for a sandwich is, how to prepare a pineapple, shit I don't even know. I get paid to take fruit out of boxes and put it on the floor. I'm not expected to be an expert, just to do my job.
