It uses an eMMC module. Here's a thread with some information about this component. At the moment we don't know if the data is encrypted uniquely to each console but if that's the case, replacing the part may prove difficult.

Update: The eMMC module is unique to the console and not replaceable. A user on Reddit attempted to swap the modules between two consoles, and the consoles refused to boot up. Sadly this means we can't just buy a new part and swap it in whenever we want.

what about upgrading if someone had the means to copy the files to the larger drive wouldn't the unique id number go with it or is it classified to the actual chip itsself

i don't think that's how you get more memory, i mean, theese things are usually coded to use that specific component.. if you put a larger chip it will probably not recognize or mess up stuff..

i mean its just really an idea that i would like to persue i would leave it up to the homebrewers
