That's odd. i never do type those prefixes when i enter urls, Not sure why this happened though.

this only concerns people who type the site address with the www from memory
there isnt a single link on google or anywhere else that has the www's... so we dont usually bother
but since certificates are now free I suppose it wouldn't hurt either, i did it for gbatemp a few weeks back so I can just do the same for FT
