Tencent has acquired Sumo Group, developers behind Sonic All-Stars Racing, Sackboy, and more

asddas.png

Tencent has bought up another video game company to add to its massive portfolio, with its recent acquisition of British studio Sumo Group. The brand is the parent company of Sumo Digitial, responsible for creating popular titles such as Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed, LittleBigPlanet 3, Snake Pass, and Hood: Outlaws & Legends. Tencent paid a whopping $1.27 billion dollars to buy up Sumo Group, while previously having an 8.75% stake in the company's stakes.

Tencent intends to bring its expertise and resources to accelerate the growth of Sumo both in the UK and abroad, supporting Sumo in the market for top-notch creative talent, and the UK as a hub for game innovation. We believe the proposed transaction benefits all stakeholders, delivers compelling value for Sumo shareholders, while enhancing the Sumo business for the future.

I agree that the people are cool, but their government is a little... sketch...
Unless a country is occupied, its government results from its people. To say that the Chinese government is separate from the Chinese people is nothing more than a Western fantasy. There are more CPC members than German citizens. The president enjoys more support than the most popular US presidents.

i said as if there's no NA companies in Africa lol
I believe Chinese didn't bomb the shit out of Africa like all western nations did, what Chinese did was a simple practice called "trading buying and treat them as equal", which is peak of diplomacy, something certainly The Murica empire doesn't have.

Yes, treat them as equals, as they now hold billion dollar loans over these countries, own the mineral rights, and send chinese engineers to build their infrastructure. Smells a lot like new age colonization if you ask me. Reminds me a lot of how my friend played too much EU4 and was regaling to me about vassalization and annexation. Seemed to start the same way.

I'm not going to defend the west, they're rotten bastards too. You can just look at the US and the Oil East. But don't try and act like China isn't effectively holding all the assets these countries own for their (the country's) benefit. This is an era where the western world has failed on geopolitics, and we will see the ramifications play out in the decades to come.

But China isn't a democracy, it's a one party state of course it has a shit ton of members of the only political party.

That wasn´t my point. Politicians enjoy much more support in China than in most Western countries. Politics in the "democracies" is about advertisement, politics in China is about action. Chinese politicians get promoted by results (e.g. their success to bring rural areas out of extreme poverty) while Western politicans get promoted by whoever gives the best speeches or enjoys media support. Case in point: The successor of Merkel (Laschet) went to the region hit by the flood. The firefighters had to stop working for hours, just so he could give a speech in a large hall. It is all cosmetics... too bad for him that he was seen laughing while people were dying. The last two German defense ministers have been women with no experience in that field. The current German health minister is a banker...

I used to drink alcohol fairly often. Never to the point of it being a problem, but like 2-3 beers with dinner each night, or a few cocktails or glasses of Scotch or something. Started smoking/vaping weed a lot a few years back which killed 90% of my interest in booze. Now I stopped smoking/vaping weed as much and just deal with life the boring way most of the time

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

The 2006 versión was made when the flash portal was made
