Funny thing that I just received my R4 in the mail today. I was talking to my friend and he's like, why did you buy an R4? And basically he said that the R4 doesn't get any updates anymore and that it's dead, and he says that you should have gotten cyclods.

I looked at the r4 website and the last kernel was like 5 months ago. There was another forum topic about using R4SDHC kernels, 1.21. So I thought that would be a nice alternative to the conundrum, but I wasn't sure if that's entirely possible in the first place because well, I didn't really read it.

So yea, just wondering if the R4 is dead, and start saving up for like... a cyclods or something. Hopefully that doesn't die.

If the R4 is dead, I thought it'd be nice if someone made it obvious, cuz I sure as hell didn't know.

The general consensus is that the R4 is dead. There may be one more firmware update on 15 September, but there's nothing guaranteed about that.

As for using the firmware off one of the clones, yes it's possible but pointless. Some of the more tech savvy people have looked at them & the only real difference is the branding & support for SDHC. There's no extra game support & genuine R4's can't support SDHC due to the hardware not supporting it.

Sorry but I had an R4 since last january and still haven't come across a game that doesn't work except SW:Clone Wars and GHOT:Decades but they don't work on many cards anyway... But still revert to YSMenu as soon as we do kick it.

YES AND YES, the R4 team is dead. Even if they supposedly come back no one would believe its them since there are so many damn clones. Just get over the fact people geeezzz.
