After years of silence, the following teaser popped up out of nowhere, suggesting that Activision Blizzard, the company which currently owns Sierra, has resurrected the studio. Sierra was a video game company responsible for Space Quest, King's Quest and other wonderful games which laid the foundations of the point-and-click video game genre. Their website used to re-direct to Activision's homepage, but now has been updated and displays the teaser above. Does this mean that we'll see some classic Sierra franchises coming back to life at Gamescom? Only time will tell.

I thought so. I remember seeing their old logo on couple of Crash PS2 titles. Doubt they'll be reviving the series though. However, a naive boy can dream. T_T
It's within the realm of possibilities, although with Activision owning Sierra anyways, they didn't need to revive a studio that merely published the games. I think this is about some Sierra-owned IP, something that was always inseparably linked with them, like Gabriel Knight or the Quest games.

Probably. Showcasing new ones or reviving older IPs that aren't fresh in the general public's memory present a more favorable opportunity for success than Crash Bandicoot currently. Doesn't help that the franchise went into limbo afterwards once Radical went defunct and that the games developed by them were pretty uninspiring. (The Crash ones. Never played Prototype.) In a perfect world, Activision would release Crash back to Sony and he would receive a proper revival on the PS4/Vita.

I don't think you can consider it a resurrection if they don't have any real Sierra people involved. Ken and Roberta Williams are working on a game with their son, the two guys from Andromeda rejoined forces to create a new space-themed quest. Al Lowe went back to work on Leisure Suit Larry, which is owned not by Activision, Jane Jensen has gone on to start Pinkerton Road Studio to develop Moebius... The only thing that may be resurrected are the IPs, but I wouldn't hold my breath on them having the same magic when all the magicians have moved on.

I guess you're right, but here's for hoping that they make good use of what they have and hire talented people. If they want to put a a fresh breath of life into Sierra, they'll need all the professionals they can get. I'm also skeptic, but hopeful. Who knows, maybe new magicians can show us some of their new tricks.

Maybe. First I'd want to see what IPs they're looking at resurrecting and what they want to do with them. Until then, though, I'll be looking to the talent that left Sierra and see what they're doing on their own. I'm looking forward to the release of SpaceVenture.

Sony was just publisher. The film studio Universal owned the PS1 games.

Sierra's Grand Prix Legends still is one of the most recognized sim-racers for the hardcore audience... Good to know that they're back... but maybe it is just the brand, not the guys from those times, if it is the case, Sierra's back means no shit...

Most of the old Sierra developers went on to create their own companies - this isn't the same Sierra we grew up with. I hope it will carry on with the spirit of the original Sierra and will release quality software for a new audience though.

I used to use high end headphones and speakers JBL back when they made good speakers lol X-Fi Fatality edition sound card on PCI with XP back when Windows had good sound....

I mean built in sound on mobo's has gotten way better but still XP handled sound better and X-Fi was still better than onboard audio even to this day
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Hell not sure what was going on but for like a few weeks MP3's sounded muffled, some driver or Windows update fixed it. Thank god lol
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Oh boy Massdrop has $1100 IEMs. Want, but not at that price lmao. https://drop.com/buy/campfire-audio-andromeda-emerald-sea-iem
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'd sooner buy the Meze 109 Pro if I was dropping that much on headphones. I don't even like buds/IEMs
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I got the Google Pixel Pro buds, they're good enough for when I need portable audio. And some really cheap IEMs that Dankpods recommends, I think the KZ ZSN Pro
    +1
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'd stick with cheapo Chinese $10 ones quality is actually becoming on pair with name brand since name Brand usually quads the price up anyway loose one bud that's another $200
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
My Pixel Pro buds shit the bed a month or two ago. My wireless charger (which they do support Qi charging) absolutely COOKED them. Caused some problem that caused the case to heat up to 180F+
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
They were like 9 months out of warranty but I hit up Google support anyway and told them how hot they were getting and they replaced them with new ones because they wanted these for failure analysis lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    lol wireless charging
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah that's why I can't bring myself to even spend $100 on wireless earbuds
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it's a cool idea but damn
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Apparently the case has a problem with >15W wireless chargers. Google design fault, that one.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I could live with wireless charging if the damn standard case doesn't block connection
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    how is wireless charging possible?

you mean generally, how does the concept work?

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Copper conducting electricity or something
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@Xdqwerty, power through a coil of wire causes an electromagnetic field to be generated. Another coil of wire can be set up to harness the power from that electromagnetic field and turn it into usable energy for charging a device
