Hacking Should we expect a N64 retro to come out as strong as its PS1 counterpart?

Because WOW. PCSX-Armed is one of the most impressive emulators released yet, off the jump many games are working at 100% and many more are at comfortably playable speeds.

This only makes an n64 retro core more promising to me.

Even if it does happen theres no rear touch pad support so not enough buttons.
We already can write rear touchpad stuff.
There is no good reason why the Vita version of RetroArch shouldn't have touchpad support to a later point in time.
Also even with the amount of buttons the Vita has alot of N64 games would work fine.
And it should be mentioned that there is work on a N64 emulator port for Vita atm (which could take quiet some time until it's a useful port, for technical reasons).

N64 on Vita Using VHBL...
Lets face it.... its not very good... but okay with Mario64 & most of the Mario64 Hack Roms... marios missing stars ect
but Zelda is awful ... but i would still say ...VHBL... is worth doing for Mario64... until a full speed NATIVE N64 emulator arrives which i dying for !

PCSX-ReARMed is specifically designed to run on ARM-based systems. I don't believe there are any N64 emulators which are specifically designed to run on ARM-based systems. Unless someone writes one from scratch, I doubt that N64 speed would be anywhere near PSX speed.

I think it is fast thanks to the neon gpu plugin (and the dynarec).

and for the subject: "Should we expect a N64 retro to come out as strong as its PS1 counterpart?"

I don"t think so.

I believe that N64 emulation is certainly possible, but whether it will run well for most games is more questionable. There are a few things to take into consideration. Firstly, N64 is more difficult to emulate than the PlayStation 1. Secondly, assuming the Vita's hardware is up to the task, software optimization and the type of emulation used is going to be a major factor in how well it will run.

I think it might be worthwhile to look at how N64 emulators run on hardware like the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. If the emulators run well enough on those platforms then I think there might be some hope (but then again those devices are running at higher clockspeeds, and the Vita's additional cores are probably not going to be very useful since, if I am not mistaken, most N64 emulators, at most, scale to two cores and are more dependent on single threaded speed), but if the emulation is slow on those platforms then there is a good chance that the Vita version will not run much better (unless of course the emulators were not properly optimized).

Both of those are crap, we should be pooling our efforts to get a Saturn emulator going. That will never happen.

Anyways. The Vita is new to hacking, so who knows. I guess just wait.

Yabause (a Saturn emulator) is actually included in the Retroarch nightlies. (it's been included about 1 and a half months now, I think?) I got about 3-4FPS out of it though, but I don't have a clue if the Yabause core is still being developed on to this day...

I wish I could, haha. Sadly, I do not have the man-power to do that sort of thing; my brain only goes so far into coding before it goes kaboom... I am more professional at dishing out plenty of info about stuff, if anything.
Although I do wish that Yabause could be kicked back into development; I remember the Wii (and maybe the PC emulator?) only emulating at slow-ass speeds as well... The Saturn really has no love. :(
I frequently hear SSF is a better emulator than Yabause though. Could be great to see something like that ported over to Vita as well as, and seeing how much better it could turn out to be.

Oh, and regarding N64 emu. on the Vita; I believe that Super Mario 64 ran at about 40-50fps for me with VHBL at one point. I was running the ROM through DaedalusX64, if I remember rightly.
If it can emulate that speed, then surely with the increased CPU clock speed we have in the native Vita side, there could be particularly big, noticeable differences in the performance, racking it up to perhaps full-speed?

(As for PS1, I couldn't get anything working last night, so I left that until the official PS1 emulator is hacked lol)
