GeekPWN, a security convention for "nerds", had an interesting surprise today when 2 Chinese hackers showcased a possible 4.01 KSploit as shown in the Youtube video above (bear with it, it's a little goofy in the beginning, but you can skip to around the 2 minute mark for the actual demonstration). As of right now, there has been NO additional information shared by these hackers that show whether this is truly a legitimate hack.

The only reason I'm creating this thread is because it was shown at a legitimate convention where other well-known individuals such as GeoHot is attending.

In the video, the two Chinese hackers from Chaitin Tech are showcasing a PS4 on the latest firmware 4.01 running a PS4 Jailbreak. After the exploit runs, the hackers are seen starting Linux on the PS4, then launching Mario on a NES emulator.

The video doesn’t show much, except that it appears the exploit’s entry point is in the web browser (as is always the case, it is safe to assume there is a webkit exploit involved). There’s not enough evidence on the video to confirm if the exploit is real or not.

It’s too early to tell how legit this exploit is, although the GeekPwn convention seems to be a professional event, which tends to indicate this Jailbreak is probably real. The hackers have not shared any release date however, and some people started to share worries that such an exploit could make its way to piracy dongles rather than an open exploit for homebrews and customization.

The hackers have shared a url, https://chaitin.cn/ps4.html, which for now only contains the video and not the actual exploit.

Could this be a true-blue 4.01 jailbreak? For now, no one can say. Hopefully we get some additional information soon regarding whether this exploit is truly legit, or just an elaborate scam.

Oh well... i am a risk-taker.

Updated to latest firmware.

*shrugs* Let's hope it's real.

EDIT: We need subtitles for that video.

The answer is simply no. From what we have seen with the PS4 we would need about 3 or 4 more years to make a good one. Hopefully this is real, but I have my doubts.

Try it... chaitin.cn/ps4
The URL only goes to a page with their video. I've already tried the URL myself :P

Based on what, exactly? We've already had one exploit for 1.76, it's more than likely there's another.

I am talking fully developed PS4 jailbreak. If they released a jailbreak with SteamOS, backup managers, and PS1/PS2/PS3 compatibles I would be fine. I don't really care for cheating online. I have two PS4 one for online and other for CFW.

1.76 can already run a full Linux distro, it's "there". At this point, drivers are really the only thing holding the 1.76 back in terms of playing actual Steam games/use SteamOS.

You're not going to see at least PS3 compatibility with any hacked PS4 period unless Sony releases a native emulator period, and the same is likely true for PS2 unless someone tries porting over PCSX2.

Sorry I thought you meant it does nothing like its just a white screen or something.

I'll just wait and see. Maybe it turns out to be a true hack and i am happy, or it turns out to be fake and i will be mad, but we shall see.

:rofl2:
I only translated it to see if it actually had something.
