PS3 gets new firmware update for version 4.85

Sony’s on a roll, bringing firmware updates to not just one, but two of its legacy systems. Released today was OFW 4.85 for the PlayStation 3, which “improves system performance”. If you’re looking to get a PS3 and are afraid of this being an unhackable firmware, worry not, as scene dev Joonie has already released an exploit for 4.85. However, there is no reason to currently update to that firmware at this time, as not all of the standard hacked PS3 tools are available on the new HFW 4.85.1 just yet.

I got a prompt for this 2 days ago and was a little worried because I didn't find any info about a new update.
Are there ways to get back online from this?

I remember reading somewhere that Sony has to keep updating the decryption keys for Blu-ray playback, maybe that's what these updates are?
is either that or european only eula shit.

EDIT: seems to be the first.

Okay so it seems to be about some EU credit card thing then? Well apparently this 4.85 update did precisely nothing except change the version number for some reason, so maybe Sony implemented that EU credit card thing on their backend.

Yeah, it’s all about this EU-Payments-Stuff ... Nothing important, but we have to wait for updated CFW

So Sony releases 4.85 - an update that does absolutely nothing - and Apple's beta testing iOS 13.1 even though 13.0 isn't even out yet. What other crazy software crap is happening?

I guess the system is technically still alive as people still could login for multiplayer games? (mass effect 3 anyone?)

LOL! If you don't have the EC Ending downloaded and installed, you're fucked once people stop playing or the plug is pulled in that game's original trainwreck of an ending!

@Xdqwerty, Falcon RGH models are fine, but a slim model is slightly more money apparently.
