I don't think the Japanese version had very much in terms of anti-piracy stuff. The 4th game, 'Devils Flute', doesn't.

That is true. But I'm pretty sure promoting sites outside of signatures is against the rules. Even if it is specifically for this game.

I think the release groups monitor us, and tease us with games we really want.

I don't think the Layton series is very "hidden".
Heck; I've seen TV spots about it, and there's almost no game ads in Germany. (Games cause killing sprees and all that)
