Do as I did....go to google and look for " Best PC games of 2007 ".
Check them out, and if they are still too much to handle for your PC , go back a step and look for best games of 2006, 2005, 2004.....
When you reach the sweet point ( games that run smoothly on your hardware ) try to look for more popular games of that year.
But let's say your computer is a little outdated, if it can play DOOM 3 BGF or the original decently, then you could go for best games of 2004.

If on the other hand you have a weak CPU and an integrated videocard ( not very good for games rendering ) then stick to late 90's, early 2000 and you should be fine.

Get a few emulators for some old systems. Done. Seriously though there's quite a few indie games that will run on old PCs (Cave Story anyone?) and League of Legends will run on pretty crappy systems as well.

I've been on a major Uplink kick lately. It's got a simple GUI, and gameplay consists of hacking computers.

Runs almost flawlessly on an old Compaq netbook with a 2.1GHz single core Atom and 1GB ram.
Right, that should run on nearly everything. I tried it once for about ten minutes, really should give it another go. There's so much stuff I should play though :O

It's not fun until you rob a bank account with $900,000, and then another with $1,400,000. Then it's just silly.

Arm73's method more or less mirrors my own.

However I should note very low power requirement graphics cards that are still technically DX11 capable (poke around the parts shops for things like the 5450) are quite cheap (if your machine has AGP though then consider something else), making sure you have at least 2 gigs of RAM (4 if you do not fancy making your system run lean) is not that pricey either and not being a tart that requires max settings (and pushing further things like http://www.oldblivion.com/ ) goes an awful long way.

Judging by your Minecraft avatar, you can at least run that, which is saying something considering how hoggy the game can be with resources.

If you haven't played it yet, Terraria is pretty fun and super-basic system reqs. Beyond that, Dungeons of Dredmor is something you should check out.

Need moar details.

A good measurement would be any game from <2005 might work ok as well as some indie games, depending on your PC of course. I had a piece of junk in 2009 that could hardly run 2005 games, so that should be a good enough benchmark I suppose unless you have an absolute shit-slow PC.

So many great games, but like some one else said with out some specs it really is hard to recommend anything.

I assume by slow PC you mean it can at least go online so its at least a Pentium 4 with 512MB's of RAM and running XP. So that gives a ton of emulation options as long as you have at least a gamepad to use. If you just want PC games there are lots of them out there you might check out this web page.

Lots of really old Dos games, but you might need to run some of them in Dosbox.

Thanks guys, i'll try them out.
Maybe it's my gpu that's holding me back, because my specs aren't too bad:
2GHz core
2GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate

But i don't know much about graphics so i'm not too sure if this is good or not:
Generic PnP Monitor (1280x800@60Hz)
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family

Thanks for the recommendations anyway!

Wish they would let us play the NCAA football 14 on newer xbox, its one of the only games I love and own on disc still, that is not back compatible, bs.

@BigOnYa My dad recently bought a spare Series X off of me, got game pass, and saw Madden '24 on Game Pass, decided to try it out.

@K3Nv2 He was looking into consoles for his house anyway (for my younger siblings and himself) and I had a spare XSX and Switch I ended up selling him at pretty steep cuts. I would just give them to him, but I did buy them with the intent to sell them... and college is super expensive.
