Hacking OtherOS Question

I have a PS3 set up with the lastest REBUG on 4.82. How do I prepare to use OtherOS? I just get an OtherOS: Operation Failed. I know I need to prepare it somehow but don't know how. I found this: https://rebug.me/boot-otheros-otheros-prep-tool/ but it's from 2011. I haven't done anything in the PS3 scene til now so I'm OOTL on this stuff. Thanks.

Hi, I found this and it worked for me (somewhat): https://www.reddit.com/r/ps3homebrew/wiki/otheros
First, it would boot petitboot and the option to boot the cd didn't show.
Then I told it to boot gameos and restarted the ps3 to try again and now petitboot just leads to "no signal" on the TV. I'm not sure what else to try.
Let me know your results if you try it out!

Okay, I got petitboot "working" again, but there are 2 problems:

1. It doesn't see any CDs put in in petitboot but the drive works
   
   
2. There's a failure to handle a kernel paging request for data at address 0x00000228 soon after petitboot is opened/gone to shell.

For anyone that finds this thread looking for a solution, I ended up using a 3.55 CFW (glevand's) as there was much more documentation and things are going well so far (installing Red Ribbon as I type this).

Hi, I see that the OP found a solution for themselves, but I'd like to inquire if anyone has found a solution that does not require downgrading to 3.55 as my ps3 is jailbroken with the new jailbreaking method due to my e3 flasher not working anymore, which causes me to not be able to downgrade. I'm running 4.82 and am trying to install linux of some sort on my ps3 to do some testing. Any help would be great, thanks!
