You need to have either fastboot3ds or GodMode9 installed on FIRM0, instead of typical boot9strap.

Please, take off the SD card from the console and boot it while pressing the HOME button. If fastboot3ds menu isn't shown then you should install it, following this tutorial:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/updating-from-b9s-to-fastboot3ds.494773/
Is gm9 your firm0 or are you chain loading from b9s?
It's godmode9. I took my SD card out and checked. I dont know why this doesn't work but I'd rather keep my setup as is since it functions fine besides this one application. I just have to load the payload at boot to play GBA games which is fine. But thank you both for trying to help

Can I upgrade this app using Universal Updater? Does Universal Updater grab the latest .firm from the repo and automatically add it to the payloads folder under Luma, or do I have to download the .firm manually from the repo to update OPEN_AGB_FIRM?

For reference, max backlight setting appears to be 64, anything higher will give you black screens. edit: this doesn't seem to match the actual max backlight on 3DS, VC still can go brighter.
Output gamma is how the colors appear more saturated by default on the washed-out 3DS screens. 2.2 is no change (i.e. same as VC without dark filter), lowering from there will increase apparent saturation at the risk of black crush.

The LCD panels used on all 2/3DS models don't seem to be calibrated at all. It's pretty hard to find settings that work great for all of them. And it looks like the way this works is by using a 8 bit-per-color lookup table on the 3DS side. So there is some risk for color banding.

The colors are great out of the box in my opinion. The brightness either.

Way better than mGBA. it looks better, more crisp in general with this firm.

Yes, just tested it to confirm, the display is definitely corrupted. Maybe there's some more work to do before it works.

Thanks for compiling it!

profi200 explanation.

It is [fully implemented], but it's not a simple one line edit. The hardcoded GPU cmd lists and the hardcoded DMA code is what prevents me from adding a scale option to the config. It's kinda annoying not having a citro3d port and a DMA JIT to get rid of that problem. I will see if i can somehow make this work via a compile time define.

The games I've tried have problems while saving when they are type Eeprom.
Sram and Flash saves seem ok.
Any progress on the eeprom saves issue?

This might be a silly question, but will this ever support some type of borders, similar to the 3DS VC? Or is this just bare metal GBA mode access?

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They haslve dedicated on board chips that aren't tweaked like x64/x32 afaik
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
but its a custom os for both of them

    designed for only specific hardware
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
so you have to learn to emulate that specific hardware which isn't as easy as you'd think

It's a locked down Linux distro basically
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think the only custom hardware is to do with the SSD and a security chip
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Probably combined in one chip
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They place married security chips onto boards iirc

Didn't see much need for a console, all the advantages have kind of disappeared
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
the ps3 used to support installing linux because the cpu was so powerful
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Then the games are $70 and they want to reboot and refresh the same game every year
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
The ps3 was always Linux they just found a way to make it open source
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
I'm avoiding buying from the big 3 at all atm

At one point PC game pads where poorly supported, loading a game had setup, it was complicated. Now it's almost as easy as a console.
