Hacking Old user now a NooB and requires assistance and advice

Hey All,

I haven't touched my Wii in a long time because I had a new son, and there wasn't really anytime for it. But now my son is 5 years old, and he has played a couple of Wii games at a friends house. So I figured I may introduce him to our Wii.

So, here is my background and the background of the Wii:

- I have WiiKey installed (I installed it myself)
- I then did the softmod and have BootMii installed.
-- I also believe I backed up whatever I needed to back up with BootMii
-- I have no idea which version of BootMii I have.
- Wii Version 3.2U
- Using an external WBFS formatted drive at the moment

This is what I currently have:

- Newest Homebrew Channel (updated it yesterday)
- USB Loader GX 1.0
- I thing I have the following CIOS installed 222,223 and 249

So here are my questions so far:

1- Should I upgrade to 4.3U?
-- If so, why? What benefits will that give me?
-- Can I just do a straight update? Can I brick my Wii just updating?
-- Do I need to reinstall the cIOS etc? Are those deleted?

2- What cIOS should I install to have the greatest compatibility for games?
-- From what I recall, I don't believe the Mic for Rock Band worked at all
-- Metroid Trilogy did not work

3- I like to install Channels to the Wii, instead of using CoverFlows.
-- I don't mind using a Cover Flow type of interface, which is the best to use now?
-- If I upgrade, can I still use Loadstructor to create channels?
--- If not, is there something new that allows me to create channels?

4- I would like to be able to play GC games off of the drive. Any advice for that?

Any combination of things will help. The ideal combination is fine with me.

Use ModMii for a full resoftmod and choose 4.1.

I have not used ModMii before. So that is really great.

Will doing what you mentioned also allow me to install the best and most up to date cIOS for the Wii Games? Also does it install Dios Mios?

Newest doesn't always mean best. It installs a variety of cIOS's for maximum compatibility. You can install DM with it.

couple of Last question,

Is there anything better to use then Loadstructor to create the Wii Channels for the ISOs?
Do I need to install the d2x iso in order to have Metroid Prime and the mic for Rockband working? (Not sure if ModMii installs that by default)

Honestly, I recommend Letterbomb. It's easier and quicker, and doesn't require to make an installation on your computer. Here's a full tutorial on homebrew installing, as well as ALL cIOS installs and Priiloader from an expert:
