I've looked all over for an answer for my situation but haven't found one, so ill take my shot.

I backup ALL of my cartridges, as my kids use them with me. a few days ago, my son lost my Pokémon sword cart. so I updated my emuNAND and installed my backup to continue progress until I could find my copy (or buy another one). My question, is, will I lose ALL of my progress in my CFW save when I find (or replace) my cart, or is there a way to transfer that save safely?

Again no editing or hacking done to the save, just continuing the story as I replace my cart.

Save is stored on the NAND that it was played on, if it was played on sysnand, save is on sysnand.
Thanks for the quick reply,!
I know about that, my question is about getting the UPDATED one from my emuNAND to replace the one on my sysNAND, so that I don't lose whatever progress I make from here to when I get the cart again. I'm hoping that I find it soon and progress is negligible, but if I don't, I wouldn't be able to afford another one for a while.

If both NAND are on cfw then you can create a new profile and restore the profile or replace your current one. Probably easier if you just move the pokemon. It different if one NAND was meant for online.

sysNAND is clean OFW
emuNAND is CFW (made from sysNAND right after backup)

You can just use a homebrew save manager to dump and restore the save files.

I think you still aren't understanding me. maybe I just don't know how to explain. I have been playing and gaining progress on my emuNAND copy of Pokémon sword. I just recently purchased a used copy of the cart (finally). I want to transfer my save(non modded) from my emunand to my sysnand so I can continue playing with online access. I cannot use a HOMEBREW app to deal with the save, as that would expose me to possible bans

The only way that I can think of to transfer your save from emunand to sysnand without cfw is using hac disk mount. I'm not 100% sure how you would do it but there are guides. While this wouldn't require CFW it is not 100% guaranteed that it will not get you banned. Nintendo logs absolutely everything your switch does so they will see discrepencies. The good news is they don't seem to care enough to ban people for stuff like that. You're probably fine to use CFW on your sysnand which would be easier too. There are lots of people that have been using CFW online for years that haven't been banned. Nintendo only seem to care about piracy and cheating online this generation. Basically don't ruin Splatoon and don't install NSPs and you'll be fine to run CFW online. I can not promise you will not get banned but based on all the evidence it seems unlikely.

You can try this if both unit are hackable, no guarantees of no ban.

@Xdqwerty, Falcon RGH models are fine, but a slim model is slightly more money apparently.
