"Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition", a new NES Remix-like game, launching July 18th

After rumour got out about an upcoming NES Edition release for the famed Nintendo World Championships, Nintendo has officially unveiled the new game, titled "Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition".

The title seems to be similar in gameplay and focus (kind of a successor even) to what the NES Remix titles were in the Wii U, with timed challenges being available from a wide variety of NES titles, like the original The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 & 3, Ice Climbers, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Excitebike and much more, with up to 13 NES games to choose from.

Completed challenges and their times can be shared online to compete for the top spot, a "Speedrun Mode" is included to play for the best possible times, and a "Party Mode" that allows for up to 8 players locally to play at the same time and compete for the best times.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition will be available on July 18th, 2024, on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch.
A Deluxe set for the game will also be available, including a golden replica cartridge, 13 art cards for the NES games, 5 pins and the physical game cart for the Nintendo Switch.

Well, it was neat to see all those former competitors just livin it up. Specially the ending, saying "who is that guy?" :rofl2: to the original champion. Now, about the game, I doubt it will be better than the NES Remix 1 & 2 and Remix, and even those game burned up very quickly for me (back in the Wii U and later 3DS times)

But it is kinda of a nice little addition to the mix, in this last year of switch games.

I wished that I've didn't have Pyoro spoiling about this game too early. But it's great to have a form of NES Remix back on the Switch. :)

Fuck Pyoro and his intentions of spoiling content.

I mean, what did it spoil exactly?

That it existed vs some big surprise? I don’t follow you there

what did it spoil exactly?

While they lack direct evidence of revealing spoilers, they often present images of upcoming games for the Switch in a cryptic manner, which is sufficient to spark speculation and nearly accurate predictions about the forthcoming titles.

Gimmicky AF.
Challenges feel like pulled out of Nintendo's lawyers asses.
"Huuur grab the mushroom fastest, huur"
I’m going to do the challenge where I don’t play the game.
A challenge might be, I dunno, finishing the game without power ups?
Not grabbing a coin for the entire level?
Harder enemies?

I’m doing the challenge where I don’t play the game. Haha

I feel like I'm part of the audience that appreciates bite-sized portions of NES gaming and speedruns + high scores so I'm down with this.

I was trying to spot what the 13th game was, then realized they're counting "The Lost Levels" as one of the games. Pshh
Would be cool if they were able to throw in some 3rd party classics.

I loved Ultimate NES Remix. I'll probably give this a try (☠️), but idk if it will hold my interest quite as well.
I should play NES Remix 1 & 2 next time I hook up the wee you.

The previous titles did very little to explore what would have been really interesting, with only a few challenges making one game break into the other like some contemporary hacks do with Zelda/Metroid and such. This looks like it will have even less of that.

I played all the way through both NES Remix games on the Wii U and then Ultimate NES Remix later. This game, however, feels like a quick cash grab right from the start. Seems like it contains less content overall. And now that NSO is a thing, you'd expect more than that. At least I do. Why not make SNES Remix a thing instead of rehashing the same stuff we have already and coupling it with an exceptionally bad UI?

Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.

I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
