A friend of mine is asking me to softmod his ps3
Seems like he has a ps3 slim cech3003a
I checked on google but many websites are confusing and misleading.
I never owned a playstation before and this will be my first attempt to hack one.
And since it's not mine i have to be extra careful and avoid bricks
All he wants is a cfw or multiman or whatever way to load free "backups"
Please help

As this is a super slim no CFW for your friend [emoji17]

There is a way with downloading stuff online and then patching games somehow but I don't know what this is called exactly.

But there is defenitly no way to install cfw of any sort on this device.

exaclty.... But even not all 2k modells. Always depends on what the lowest possible Downgrade Firmware actually is.

But Godoto has postet the name of the only solution right now. PS3Xploid

Never really used it as it seems quit complex and the prices for a hackable PS3 Model are very likely under 100 Euros here in Germany.

Forgive me for being so dumb but..
Can i install pkg games and how?
And is this permament
Yes you can install Pkgs at the end. That's the point of every exploit :) This is not permanent like other coldboot CFW (e.g Rebug) but you can reactivate it with ease after each reboot. Only the initial installation is quite long and complex.

No you don't.

Anyway please take time to read through it. I've never tried it myself and want to avoid giving out misinformation as much as possible. I just know for the fact that it works on every Firmware & Models.

Han works good on post 2501B models. Done a few 1.5TB fills. Takes a while to re-sign .pkgs and send them over but hey there was nothing on these models before this. Han can do ps3, ps2 Snes and genesis, never tried ps1.

You will need:
ps3 resigner
pkg linker 2.0 is good for 4GB + games

To convert disc based game to pkg for resigning you will need: (Not all games work and some have workarounds)
Make Backup PKG
CFW2OFW Helper

I wonder if that was the point of game streaming
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    But it's a dead end
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@Psionic Roshambo, people who cant download it can still play the game
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, i only have like 1 or 2 mb sec
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Did you feed the hamster in your internet router? It prob died and is running slow now.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, why did you start saying my pc has a hamster in the first place?

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Its actua!ly just a old joke, meaning its slow. Was just kidding around with you.

I bet @AncientBoi has some hamsters hidden somewhere tho....

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

    Some temporary storage

also @BigOnYa im making some progress on my gdevelop project, implemented various mechanics
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They went all in on streaming, should have been more of a hybrid approach

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

@BigOnYa, although the bullets are a bit buggy

Not to mention this would be a massive pain to pirate
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

im taking a break for today anyway

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
