So if boot1 gets corrupted due to it's block gone bad your only option is to desolder the NAND and solder in a complete new NAND chip then program it with an infectus?
Yes... but that will never happen because boot1 never gets written to. It happens once, in the factory and never again after that.

Restoring a nand backup on to a nand that has developed bad blocks can cause issues is the system menu or it's IOS was there, other than that the data will get moved upon noticing that the block is bad.

I was able to successfully jtag this 360 using the infectus. I just used nandpro to dump my kv from my full image into a separate file and then inject the kv to a compiled free60. From there I grabbed my cpu key and used bestpig to make a 14699 kernel and flash that from xellous. Everything worked great that way.

So, now I'm wondering how to install freestyle and have it boot to it on startup. I only have a 256mb memory card and no external hard drives that I can dedicate to this 360 yet. I can use the one that I use for my wii. It is formatted to fat32 so I don't know if that will work for any game loading.

Also, when I went to the connect menu it said that software needed to be installed for it. How can I manage that?
How can I install the netflix channel?
Can I even go online with this console and not get banned in the near future?

Thank you all sooooo much. I greatly appreciate it.

Also, for easy unbricking and whatever, I installed a tsop48 nand clip into my 360 so I can easily remove the nand and reprogram in externally with my infectus. Pretty freakin sweet

Thats great!

You can install FSD on a external USB for a while.
For game loading you'll just have to set the game paths to a external drive.

A tut for installing/setting up FSD (iirc with autoboot feature) can be found here along with a LiveCD of XeXmenu.

Avatars etc can be installed by downloading the 14699 update from the MS website.
They do require a HDD to be installed, or a large enough MU.

Netflix isn't possible since that requires XBLive and that will never be available for a jTAG.
Unless you have the know how how to get your jTAG online without being detected.
(some people do have a jTAG that's able to go on XBLive)
If you throw your jTAG on XBLive, you may get 4 hours of fun~
After that it's permabanned.

You're welcome at all times ;]

Mind if you take a few pictures of the mod?

So, I just get the regular update and install it? Wouldn't that normally cause an error after the update finished because everything is official now? Or will it see that 14699 is already installed and just only write the needed files to the harddrive? Or is it just a partial update that only contains the hard drive data?

Yeah, next time I have the whole thing apart I will take a few pics. It was a very delicate process. The nand clips tend to melt even if you just look at them the wrong way, but I had put it on and it wasn't aligned properly so I reflow it again with my hot air station and my IR preheater and some how magically I was able to do it and get it aligned properly and not have the thing melt at all. That takes patience, skill, and the right tools. :D

WTF? So you have to also pay for xbox live on top of netflix?

I'm hating the sound of the fan being so loud when on 12v. I think I might program a microcontroller to be a fan controller plus other things. I've got a few ideas up my sleeve. I'm just concerned that this thing might die shortly just because I have no clue the history of this thing. One of my buddies found it while he was painting an apartment after the last tenants moved out. The thing was torn apart, dvd drive was half dismantled. So I don't want to sink to much money or effort into it especially being a non hdmi version. But there are quite a lot of things that I could do to this thing including thermoelectric coolers.

Yep.
The NAND has already 14699 files on it so it will just create a Sysext. partition on the HDD and install the needed files to that partition + the Avatar files.
It won't overwrite any files/burn e-Fuses, I've done it myself after I upgraded the HDD to a 500 GB one ;]

Alright!
I'd love to see it.
I'm always interested in modifications to the NAND/360 it self ;D

Yep.
Netflix is only available for XBLive Gold members.
Same goes for Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and primarely online gaming and Party voicechats.

If you manage to keep your temperatures below 60c, It should last quite a while.
I'd also recommend putting little heatsinks on the RAM + ANA + Southbridge chips.
Anything to keep the temperatures below 60 is great, below 50 is even better but it being a Xenon is hard to achieve.
Also removing the back fan mesh is said to improve overall airflow.

I myself have cut a hole in the casing above the 2nd GPU heatsink and placed a 40mm fan on top of the 2nd heatsink which runs on 12v.

In total, it took me maybe about 8 hours. But thats only because when I first put it on it was a little crooked so I had to slowly heat up the board again, try something out, let it cool down, test it out... I had to go through that process about 3 times which is really time consuming. If it were to have gone down perfectly the first time then it would have only been about an hour worth of effort.

Seems like it's factory made ;]
Really neatly done!

It can also be done on other consoles which have a TSOP NAND?

Anywhoo, If you have any other question, just ask them ;]

I've seen the SD LED mod before on Hackaday. ;p

Pretty sweet!
Is it done by hooking up the + on the data line of the SD and the - on the GND?

Hotswapping the NAND doesn't corrupt it?
So you could in theory have a boot1c NAND on 1 chip and a boot1b on the other? or am I completely wrong with that?

I used a PICAXE microcontroller to read the SPI line to SD card and the CE pin of the NAND. From those I was able to see when data was being read and written to those devices, and I had the PICAXE control the LED's.

If your wii came with boot1c, then you are stuck with it because the hash is burned into the OTP memory. You can switch around boot2's to a degree, like if you had boot2v2 installed, your wii will boot if you put on boot2v4, but if you properly install boot2v4 through a nintendo update or using dopmii, it will update the minimum version requirement and then you wont be able to put boot2v2 again and have it boot because boot1 will reject it.

Nice.

Hmm I see, boot0 lies inside the CPU iirc?
Even if you got boot2v4 installed with a boot1b, you could still install BootMii to boot2 right?

I've never updated my Wii beyond 3.2 simply because of the native Trucha bugged IOSses ;p

Anyway should we continue this talk via PM?
Otherwise this would end in a chatterbox lol.

Ok, I wasn't very succesful getting freestyle launched or installed. What will be my best method?

Also, I want to launch games from my external hard drive. What is the best way for me to go starting with a .ISO?

There is a XeXmenu installer CD.

You could install FSD on the HDD (or USB MU) with that LiveCD and configure dashlaunch to straightboot to FSD (I think that that is enabled by default)

As for loading from USB Drives.
The internal drive is way faster (SATA 2 iirc) but your only options are either a complete discextract (.xex files) or a GOD game (converted ISO to Game on Demand)

.xex format is popular with modders and takes the least amount of space
GOD containers are launchable from the MS dash as wel as FSD ;]

XeXMenu installer disc: here

It also contains a detailed "manual" on ow to set it all up and configure FSD ;]

No problem. Format the usb hdd with the 360 so it sees it as storage. It will only use 16GB, but if you have anything else there I'd backup just to be safe. Get the live container version of xexmenu. If it's not already it's in proper folder structure, then fix it by making folders yourself. It should be Content/0000000000000000/C0DE9999/00080000

Get xtaf, open the 360 partition on the usb hdd with it and inject the content folder into the data partition. Xexmenu will show up in the library on stock dash now.

From there you can launch it and have ftp access + file browser, so all you have to do is put freestyle where you want it and install and configure dash launch.
