I have never heard that someone would hack a rom for custom music.
@AlanJohn: Living under a rock maybe?

@hundredhead: As for your custom music request, I'm not entirely sure how Mario Kart handles its music resource files, but I'm sure it's entirely possible to hack it. Maybe try posting a request in the ROM Hacking forum instead? Or maybe you could ask a moderator nicely to move your topic?

I believe Mario Kart uses SDAT like most other DS games so http://jul.rustedlogic.net/thread.php?id=7518 and the last few pages of http://gbatemp.net/t73394-gbatemp-rom-hack...ion-project-wip covered a fair bit of sound hacking. Also http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=122534 if it was not already linked.

This being said it is not going to be like your typical PC or console hack that amounts to converting, renaming and maybe rebuilding a file (well you will rebuild a file at some level but there are no real tools up to the task)- you will have to get your hands dirty in a hex editor.
Equally you might be stuck with replacing like with like- I do not know if anybody has tried swapping out sound types on the DS (most DS audio tracks are SSEQ which is a tracker/midi type format rather a wave type format that your MP3 files probably exist as).
