You stop getting notifications if you dismiss the first notification. Visit the thread again and you will continue to get notifications.

I still don't get them. I only get them when someone directly quotes me or uploads something to the thread. Otherwise I never get any notifications.

"Replies to a watched thread

Someone replies to a thread you are watching" wasn't ticked. I don't even recall messing with those settings, but apparently I did
