so, I know that the new screen has little effect on the battery life of the gba. I saw a couple of videos about that. I'm using my awesome ezflash3 (4gb). It has the power star feature. After about 2 or 3 hours, the led for the battery status flashes red and green, even orange. Especially when loading or writing from the cart. I've tried other brands and get the same result. Is this normal? Any input is appreciated.

Also, I hadn't soldered the wire to get the max brightness. On my 40 pin gba with the white tabbed ags101

Loading from/writing to the cart seems to be very power intensive. On my DS Lite, I have an EZ Flash IV, and unless the DS is plugged in or 90%+ full, I/O operations on the cart will cause the power LED to blink between green and red. This seems to be normal when using flash carts and is likely not related to your backlight mod.

it maybe problem with the power switch, not the LCD or battery. gba power switch is some kind of faulty, easily get dirty and not conductive well. i got mine too with that problem - too soon get red, red-orange-green flickering when i touch the switch or near switch like grab hard - but cleaning the switch helped like a charm.

one problem is, you need to de-soldering the switch component when cleaning.

Thanks. I noticed that too. When moving the power switch slightly, the led would flicker. However, when I put new batteries in, it doesn't do it. Maybe, yeah, I clean it. I may just buy another one, I'm not good at soldering.

I may just buy another one

if you mention "another one" by buy another gba it self, i think every single one of gba left now having trouble that filthy switch. or if you mention the one as new switch component, it's same difficulty and process to swap the component or cleaning the one. so i don't recommend buy anything. it's not about the money.

better yet, if you can't do youself, show this procedure to near general electronical repairman or friends who can de-soldering and leave them to do it.

also, switch itself have a little resistance of voltage, more and more when it get dirty. so new battery seems a little stable led status since it have higher voltage, but clean switch makes that "stable" time longer.

I see, thanks for sharing that. I thought the entire switch housing needed to be removed from the motherboard. It's just the top. I'll tinker with it. It's not surprising that all gba now would have that issue. They are all about 15 years old. That switch looked so different after it was cleaned.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
