Every game I've tried so far (SNEmul or Jenesis) has had some sort of graphical problem with it. I've tried playing Chrono Trigger, DKC 1 2 and 3, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Super Mario All-Stars, Sonic 1, 2 and 3 and every one of them has been sorta screwed up. Any hope for better emulators in the future? Maybe I'm not doing something right? How much better is emulation on the PSP than the DS? Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by "sorta screwed up"? If you mean a single graphical glitch here and there, but the game is still playable, then why are you complaining? For instance, all three DKC games are entirely playable if you mess with the graphical settings somewhat. For this I personally use SNEmulDS v0.5 Beta as I fear the GUI in v0.6 Alpha is rather buggy. Check the compatibility list on the PHWiki for graphical settings you should use for each game, as I'm almost positive I added some long ago.

All-stars should be entirely playable as well, so I don't know what the issue is here. Secret of Mana should be mostly playable as long as you've got the SNEmul.cfg file on the root of your card. Chrono Trigger does have moderate graphical glitches but is still playable.

I've also played Sonic 3 up to the casino levels and have only experienced a graphical glitch when near water, which had no effect on gameplay at all. What issues are you talking about here?

Of course emulation on the PSP is better. It's got over 5 times the clock speed (not counting the ARM7 since it's only used for audio emulation in both SNEmulDS and jEnesisDS) and at least 8 times the amount of RAM (16 with the Slim). Because of the DS's lack of power, it uses hardware emulation to greatly speed up the rendering process but is not 100% accurate graphically. If it used a software renderer like the emulators for the PSP do, it would run much more accurately but at maybe 30% speed (rough estimate). Personally I'd rather take a slightly glitchy game at 100% speed than a fully accurate one in extreme slow-motion, but perhaps that's just me.

Just to be sure, what versions of each are you using? If you're still using SNEmulDS v0.3 for instance, I'm not surprised that you're disappointed. If you're using v0.6 Alpha, then that's about as good as it's gonna get for the foreseeable future.

When you're in SNEmul, and lets say your playing DKC, if you make changes in the graphics config is it only for that game? Or do the changes stay the same once your playing Chrono Trigger and then you have to save them again?

If you click the Save button it will automatically save an entry for that specific game in SNEmul.cfg for you. Each game has its own entry.

However, I believe with v0.6 alpha this is broken, and it actually overwrites the current config file with just the info for the game you're playing. Therefore, it's best to use the stock snemul.cfg file that came with your download and then never press the "Save" button in any of the menus.

there are like 10% improvement for nesDS but it seems to be dead at new versions.

-Like to see better UI (touch glitches ruined my save states alot)
-better compatibility, Super Mario World and Turtles II as some examples
-dealing with multiple save states

to name a few.

Yeah i was also disappointed with the fully compatible games. But after the one update that used slot-2 for ram a lot more games started working for me. Like earthbound actually sorta works now lol.

Nope, 'cause the Pc wins.

It's quite clear he's refering to the console world, since we're comparing different gaming-dedicated systems, like the DS or the PSP. Of course PC wins when compared to, basically, anything. I strongly agree with gblock247: the original Xbox is the best home console system (just to make things clearer) when it comes to emulation. It can even emulate CPS3 (Capcom Play System 3, the system used in just a few arcade games, like Street Fighter 3) thanks to Elsemi
