If* you got the nag, it will always appear if you have parental lock or not and your siblings easily presses the UPDATE button and your 3ds ends ,becomes worthless
Well then i guess you.
  1. Disable all internet access. Need parental controls to get it back.
  2. Go to recovery mode to delete the downloaded update.

4) Unlinking the sysNAND using the method you linked to results in an update to 10.5 (which isn't useful in any way)
Are you sure following the link's method will result in an update?

Have you linked a Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo 3DS? Yes
What to Do:

  1. Select the System Settings icon on the HOME Menu, and tap "Open."
  2. Tap "Other Settings."
  3. Tap the right arrow three times, and tap "Format System Memory."
    • If required, enter your Parental Controls PIN.
  4. Tap “OK” when asked if you are ready to connect the Internet.
  5. Once your Internet connection is confirmed, read what will be lost when formatting the system by selecting “Next.” More info
  6. Tap "Format."
  7. Tap "Format" again to erase the data.

I'm just not seeing it.

I think _v3 must be confusing a system format with a system update. There's no way that the system will update when doing a system format, even if it's connected to the internet or even if it has the 'background' update already cached.

Not me :) There are a lot of people who don't know how to do it. Not everyone is tech savvy like you may be.

Thank you for your intelligent contribution to the topic, somewhere around the top corner you see your username, if you browse over it several options might appear (might be overwhelming for your IQ) but there is one underneath called 'Log Out'. Do me a favour and click it.
That is honestly the best thing I've heard today
Thank you for making my day
