But the camping defined in FPS games is not a very good tactic in war. What you're talking about is known as 'defending', and it's much smarter than sitting in the corner while waiting for people to come.
For offense: if it's mobile, then it isn't camping.

Well take it from a soldier who's in the combat line of the Singapore Armed Forces;

Camping makes you a sitting duck. It'll take mere minutes before the enemy outflanks and reigns hell over your weak, silly mortal soul.

In games, camping is a very cowardly but safe option. Because everyone else is running around the map looking for kills (Unlike a real war), it's easy to just sit around and shoot stuff while hiding in the comforts of your little camping spot (Till someone wises up and tosses a grenade or outflanks you of course)

but in real war the team is actually a coordinated team using tactics and moving around the area checking each corner, and by camping i didn't mean sitting in a corner i meant sitting behind cover

CoD games are just easy. relax, don't think about it, and try to keep your intelligence to a minimum in the game and you'll score over everyone else. Specially with ppl that just talk smack over the voice chat keeping silent against them usually nets me a 10 -0 ratio against them in my favor. Reason why I don't like FPS games or games where you play against other ppl, keep your cool and they cant touch you.

i disagree. fps do require intelligence. how to flank, strategies needed to kill your opponent, how to move on the map. its all skills and intelligence, its a different type of intelligence than from rpg games, but still intelligence.

and real fps players dont camp. they learn the map, every camping spot, routes, hotspots, spawn points. i usually do try to learn. i know all this for the original CoDBO maps, dont have the DLC maps yet though

Wait. You need intelligence for CoD? Remembering the key-mapping, yes, but not for playing the game. Run 'n gun people, run 'n gun...

and that is why many people suck at fps games even though they want to be better. its not just about running and shooting, that is going to get you killed, pissed off and with a bad k/d ratio. the intelligence needed in fps games is pretty mmuch battle strategy intelligence. learn how to flank people. how people move on the map, hot spots, spawn points, camping spots, all that

Just go online, with friends and play a few games, just play it for fun and don't worry about score and weirdly you end up getting quite good at them

Play with a mouse and keyboard. If you're new to FPSs or you just think that you're not good, play FPSs for PC. You'll learn much faster than instead of playing on consoles. Once you learn the basics and get the general feel of FPSs, you can start gimping yourself with a controller because at least now you know what to do.

Best game to learn from? Team Fortress 2, especially now with the live coaching system.

QFT. To always get in the top spot on every CoD game you have to be focused and think really fast. Like really really fast else it won't work out. You have to keep a lot of things in your sights all the time. The UAV for the red dots, the general screen to see if there's any movement, the spots where you know they can come out, the spot where you would be and the text chat to see if anybody asks you something. ALL AT THE SAME TIME

You basically have to think 'what would I do if I were the other person'. Like if you're in a building, and you just had a gunfight but no one was killed. You both ran off. You have to think in a millisecond, where could this guy hide? What is he doing?
Playing CoD on a really high level is really tense and exhausting. All your senses should be top-notch all the time.

It's really hard giving tips on FPS games. Most important thing to have is good reflexes, and you either have it or you dont'. You'd be fine with average reflexes on games like Battlefield, but with run-n-gun games like BOps where it's mostly CQC, you'll need to pick your spots well.

- If your aim isn't as good as you'd hope, use burst fire gun.
- Always check every corner when you're running around, and always expect to find someone there. Don't check every corner without being ready to spray 'em down.
- Never run in the middle of an area, always stay by the sides.
- If you're engaged against someone face to face, don't use the sights, just hip fire and hope for the best.

Pretty much this. There are several things to remember about CoD.
1: Guns have very little actual recoil
2: They shoot very, very straight.
3: It doesn't particularly matter if you're prone, or freefalling off a building, you'll still hit someone if you aim and shoot at them.
4: Learn the maps. The maps are all pretty terrible, so once you learn them, you can figure out where everyone is camping/running around.

With all that you can
1: Run & Gun. Easiest way to get tons of kills and little deaths, really. As long as you understand the map, you wont die.
2: Camp. Self explanatory really. CoD makes camping very easy.

Like I said, CoD doesn't take skill. At all. None really. If you can aim a gun and memorize a map, you're a professional COD player. It's considered a heavily casual FPS for a reason, and that's why it has such a huge fanbase. It makes a large quantity of people feel like they're actually good at FPS, when they aren't.

you just have to practice.
i remember when i first downloaded black ops for the wii and played it for the first time, i SUCKED.
after awhile i improved and picked up skills while playing.
bottom line, practice makes perfect.
just don't be a camper..

im sorry but that's terrible advice and not really true at all

only the few overpowered guns shoot very straight (famas, ak74u), the rest have reasonable recoil, and in fact the recoil in the game on LMGs is pretty much non existant in real life because they are so damn heavy

really how can you say that being able to aim and shoot at people from any position is an essential element of the game, most every single FPS is exactly like this

your only legitimate piece of advice, do learn the maps, learn the routes to go through and learn where the most traffic is and where people camp

running & gunning is not the easiest way to get kills at all, you need experience with the game, the maps, and you need to have good reflexes

have to agree that black ops particularly is pretty much designed to have plent of spots for camping, but better players will take side routes and come around and kill you, or just grenade you

and again i could say the very same for every other basic FPS out there, it's the way the games work, you can't just say CoD is shit because you become better at it by getting better control and aim and learning the maps.

The CoD series is so loved and popular because the mechanics, the animations, and just the feel of the game is so fluid and natural, now stop hating on it just because it's popular.
