I downgraded my 3DS (old) firmware from 8.1.x-xx to 4.2.x-xx earlier, and I have been trying to upgrade to 9.2.0-20 to no avail.
I have Pasta CFW, I have 3DNUS, I have the update files, and I have sysUpdater, but I still cannot seem to figure out how to upgrade.

Would someone help me, please?

Also, what are sysNAND and emuNAND exactly?
I am guessing that they are system memory and emulated memory respectively, but I have no idea what they are for, nor what upgrading/downgrading them affects.

Deleted - there's a thread below this one about updating.

Use SysUpdater, do not install CIAS as they will brick the system.

SysNAND = the firmware running on your 3DS At boot.
EmuNAND = only used if you have a flashcart or CFW at some point (a copy of your SYSNAND that you screw with and update)

If you downgraded your SysNAND to 4.2 your ONLY METHOD IS TO UPDATE VIA A RETAIL CARTRIDGE.

ATTEMPTING TO UPDATE VIA CIAS WILL BRICK YOUR SYSTEM.

I see...
Is there a list with the games and updates they have?

Also, I followed this tutorial:

At some point, it says to make a backup of the NAND.
Should I use the backup?

People say you can use SysUpdater - but it's a risky thing. Installing system CIA's to NAND for 7.x firmware never updates FIRM and ends up with a brick.

Safer to update via cart if you can

Check http://3ds.essh.co/
Sort by FW and you can probably find a game.
Yes it costs some money, but probably safer if you aren't comfortable with what you're doing.

You could restore your backup if you made one on that specific 3DS - however it would be whatever FW you were on at the time.

Well, I tried using sysUpdater, but it did not seem to do anything.
It just ran through the updates folder, said it installed the firmware, and rebooted...
It did not brick the several times that I tried it, but it did not install the firmware either.

If it were to brick, would I be able to fix it by restoring the NAND backup?
If so, then I would rather try some other method of updating besides using a game cart.
