GBA SP Case Material

Hi guys! I am restoring a GBA SP (AGS-001) and I don't know what the original material of the GBA SP casing is, does anyone know?

Hi guys! I am restoring a GBA SP (AGS-001) and I don't know what the original material of the GBA SP casing is, does anyone know?

the replacements are ABS plastic, and feel just like the original (some are indistinguishable) so my guess is that ABS plastic as well. I'm curious if there is a reason for not using aftermaket shells in your specific use case. I mean, the gameboy advance SP is very a common piece of hardware, it is not a Mona Lisa restoration or anything.

It can change what cleaners, glues and solvents you use -- acetone is pretty killer to polycarbonate for instance which is what many of the higher impact cases for controllers and such like are made from a blend of (open it up and see ABS+PC and the PC is that).

Though I should also note that it makes for nice polishing options if you know what you are doing.

Anyway I am nowhere near my SP right now but step 4 of https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+Game+Boy+Advance+SP++Shell+Replacement/137582 appears to show ABS. I don't know what the overmoulding might be on some models
