not far at the mid to end of this month. Team Xecuter has come out with a modchip/plug in play device that will let you do backup loading for games and me and a hell of a lot of others here have pre-ordered it.

We've been able to play eShop games since day one! Just have to pay for them first, or download demos, or download the free games.
