As the title reads: Guys, please tell me, Do you need a Modchip to load DVD backups on Nintendont?

I ask this because I have had nothing but problems lately with Gamecube ISOS loaded through my USB HDD, it freezes on every game I play (in game because they launch perfectly). I know it must be the HDD though, as this happens with Sega CD games too (on Genplus GX).

I have a "sleepy drive" :hateit: :gun:Western Digital 500GB HDD

I have a black Wii with backwards compatibility, if that matters.

So anyways, thank you and if someone knows please tell! ;)

It also would be cool if you could launch Sega CD games using backups, but that would be a question for another par of the forum.

Cheers guys!!:grog:

I'm suspecting the HDD. Does it have external power or usb? Otherwise how long ago did you mod the wii? maybe the ios is outdated?

No you do not need a modchip.

Really?! You can then burn Gamecube ISOS to DVD and play them through Nintendont? Wow that's cool, do you know if the same could be possible for Sega CD games?

Cheers! B-) And thanks!

It is the HDD, it goes to sleep every 10 minutes, or so it seems. It is not connected using a Y cable though, just a regular one, as it is USB 3.0. Still, I know is not because of the "lack" of a Y cable, becuase I have had that problem (on other USB HDD's), and when the HDD's are not receiving enough energy, they simply dont work. Or, they make this weird noise like trying to move the "needle" inside the disc, but unable to. Not the case here.

Should work with full sized dvds but the newer wiis can't accept mini dvd-r's.

newer Wii DVD drives simply won't read DVDs (regular or re-writable). Stock Wii games are in a propriety format that isn't classified as a regular DVD

IIRC, black Wiis can't read DVDs either. It should be trivial to test by putting in a DVD. :)

Thanks, yes, it is true, it doesn't work. I guess this is only for White backwards compatible consoles only. Developers of these loaders shoudn't even waste their and our time adding DVD features, when only a handfull of Wii owners actually have the first white Wii's. And they all should comminicate this on their respective sites, which they don't.

Genesis Plus GX doesn't work either of course, only on white Wii's with BC probably.

Well, still, thank you so much guys! You guys have saved my from spending quite some cash on DVD's ;)

in the features list on github for nintendont it specifically states:
Play backups from writable DVD media (Old Wii only)
just so you know ;)

Oh Fix94!! Thank you so much for Nintendont! You are really an inspiration man!

Do you have any idea or a link to a site for compatible HDD's? I have bought a few now and all of them go to sleep, giving me problems in Nintendont and many other Emus on Wii!

Sorry to bother you with such questions, but who knows, you might have some knowledge on this,

Thanks again :grog:

It works, but DVD-r reading is slower than retail discs and probably terrible for your Wii's laser. It's a bad experience overall. I did it for like a month before getting an external HDD, chucking all the burned discs, and never looked back.

But what HDD to buy, I have bought WD and Seagate and they all have the spin down "Feature". And my games freeze and freeze. A nightmare really. Cheers!

There may be a way to remove that feature by using software provided by the manufacturer. After looking into it a bit, it looks like your best bet for a software solution is probably with the Seagate. If you no longer have the software that was included with the drive, you should track it down and look for the power/sleep/standby options.

Here is a list of devices, but almost anything will work unless you get unlucky.

Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)

@BigOnYa, Lol I bought a new USB card reader thing on AliExpress last month for I think like 87 cents. Free shipping from China... It arrived it works and honestly I don't understand how it was so cheap.
