Do you hear that? It's a Retro Game audio quiz contest! (Date for Game #1 Changed)

Sit down and listen. We have something a bit different this month. It won't be held on the forums, but on the official GBAtemp IRC server. That's right. Long overdue, we have a quiz contest coming up. I'd just like to give you folks a bit of time to prepare, so mark it down on your calendars, folks. It's about to go down. For those folks not in the know, please read this thread to understand how to connect to our IRC server and ultimately the chatroom where this contest will take place.

The prize up for grabs this time is not one, but TWO copies of your choice of either Pokemon X or Pokemon Y when it comes out. One copy per winner, of course.

Here's the twist, though. We won't be asking you normal questions like "Not counting warp pipes, how many goombas are in stage 1-1 of Super Mario Bros?" (Sixteen, if you were wondering). No, I'll be throwing out audio files for you to listen to, and you will have to tell me what game it's from. (Example: http://audiour.com/playlist/1wu0yy2x <----it's an easy one, so this certainly won't be on the quiz. Please check out this link though to make sure the site works for you.) Don't worry. I won't be quizzing you on niche or extremely unheard of games. No, they'll at least be commonly known games. In honor of my birthday, though, and in spirit of my name, I'll be quizzing you on retro games. NES to Genesis and everything in between including handhelds. So, If I were you, I would cram in some retro gaming.


Also, to give everyone a fair chance, the quiz will be held on two separate days, in two separate times. The quiz dates and times are as follows:

Day 1: Sunday September 22nd, 2:00 PM PST.
Day 2: Sunday September 29th, 2:00 AM PST.

(Please take note: Day 1 is PM, Day 2 is AM)


Now, onto the rules. The rules are VERY important this time around, so please, please read them in their entirety. Failing to do so may get you disqualified from the game, banned from the IRC server and/or possibly from future GBAtemp events.

Rules

1. The contest will take place in #Audioquiz on the GBAtemp IRC server. If you have not done so yet, read above to familiarize yourself on how to connect to the IRC server.

2. IRC has it's own set of rules, connect and read them. They will be enforced. Just to reiterate one of those rules: IRC drama stays on IRC. Posting about your problems on IRC will be met with having your thread closed, and further infractions will result in warns.

3. By the very nature of the contest, it's nearly impossible to cheat. That being said, if I catch you cheating, you're done. Not just with the contest, but with all future GBATemp events.

4. There will undoubtedly be instances where a guess comes "close". It will be my decision of what's close enough or isn't. This will not be up for discussion.

5. The contest will be decided by points. Each point being awarded to the first person to answer correctly. At the end of 20 sound bytes, the tally will be counted, and a winner announced. Also if you have won the previous quiz, you are essentially disqualified from the next. You won already, give it a rest.

6. In the event of a tie, a tie breaker will take place. As to what that tie breaker will be...well, that's a surprise.

7. As stated above there will be two separate quiz times. Anyone is welcome to participate in either or both. Yes, this means that you potentially have two chances at winning. Not that it needs to be said, but obviously your score from the previous game will be reset and will not carry on to the other.

8. To keep from anyone having an unfair advantage, each quiz time will have their own set of sound bytes to guess.

9. One guess per person, so make sure of your answer before you hit the enter key. When you submit that line of text you're essentially saying "That's my final answer" Your first answer will be your official answer, and anyone spamming answers will be kickbanned from the channel and disqualified from the contest.

10. While the quiz is taking place, please try to be "quiet", so I can read the answers. I really don't mind things like "Aw man" or "Damn, that's a tough one", but don't sit there and have a conversation in the middle of the contest. You want that, go to the main channel.

11. Have fun!

Spelling and punctuation doesn't matter much as long as I get the gist of what you're saying. This won't be by bot. And yes it will be posted to IRC in the game chatroom.

A cold has hit me like a ton of bricks, and it has set back my work on the audio samples. I don't want to hold it during the weekdays, so I'm pushing back the first game a full week. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes, but it seemed like the only fair way to handle this.

hummm are you using a quizbot for this? Since it's IRC it would cut down on the confusion a little , would have to be custom scripted though since your only allowing one guess per person

there's two chances to win and i know the winner can't enter the next one...

so do you only have one copy of each pokemon X and Y to give away? like someone chooses X does that mean the next week winner gets Y?
