As many regular visitors of the site know we are forever waging a war against spam bots here. We are generally quick to exterminate them and their threads thanks to quick reporting by our members and vigilance by the moderating team and I would like to thank everyone who takes the time to bring spambots to our attention.

However tonight something happened that genuinely made me both angry and disappointed at the same time and also made me question the common sense of some of our most prolific and well known members.

A porn spambot made a thread on the forum with graphic images and links in its opening post. People proceeded to post in this thread not once or twice, but nine times.

So this thread was bumped to the top of the latest discussion tab and given more views nine times with idiotic posts ranging from the usual "reported" to people just thinking they are funny.

Let me make it clear:

DO NOT BUMP OBVIOUS SPAM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS PORNOGRAPHIC!

Just report it!

Thanks.

I am going to take a few hours out to calm down before I take any action if any on the people who bumped that last thread, my immediate reaction being to suspend you all for your stupidity.

I honestly didn't realize/skipped over those "do not bump spam" rules myself and once did it and got it deleted immediately with message not to bump spam, but here in the thread it didn't appear. I don't bump normal spam threads however I couldn't help myself and make a joke in that particular one. Most spam threads are thankfuly boring enough not to make me want to say anything in them. Though....I also remember that when I reported spam and used some bs/joke description that also wasn't liked. I think that was here.

Can't remember if I've already answered on this thread, so sorry if I already did and bear with me.

How about muting tempers that reply on SPAM threads for a week or so?

It might sound as a harsh measure but believe me, they won't do it again.

BS. I did it once, got warned, was enough.

We don't need more restrictions, I already don't like that some threads get deleted (apart from the outright spam that shouldn't happen imo).

More freedom for all!

I think forum owner should add a pinned note on top of forum - "Do not reply to spam thread, otherwise you will be penalized." so unknown members would be aware of this note and don't mess with spammers.

It would be nice if forum has auto-ban for spammers.

This is important. I've been tempted to make snide remarks when I see obnoxious spam posts. In particular, the Introductions section has been getting bombarded recently. I'm sorry, I'm just not interested in single women with increased temperatures that just happen to exist in my immediate area!

I want to give the mods credit. They do get rid of these types of posts in good time.

Don't.

You're giving the spammers exactly what they want, more visibility.
Just report them and let the staff take care of it, the faster it gets reported the faster it can be dealt with ;)
