Okay, so I'm trying to score a Wii U for cheap, but they're all like $200 or more. I don't care much about the gamepad but I know in the past you needed it at least for settings. Can you use one without it with homebrew or do you still need it for basic stuff?

Who ever heard of a wii u without gamepad? Is definatly required, for like most of things necessary to do stuff. Even some games only work with the game pad. Is IRREPLACABLE. :wtf:

But if nintendo aren't gonna be selling wii u game pads replacements, i hope they can get a app for the switch to use wii u as game pad or something. (Though it may require wii u update but still it be maybe cool.) :P

Are you sure it's straight up unusable without it? Like can I just sync a wii remote and be good to go (I know for a fact system settings require the gamepad but I haven't used a console since 2014 so I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff)

I've been hot on the trail of this too. I actually have a thread asking about this.
http://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-u-w-o-gamepad-tips-suggestions.459304/

I have access to another Wii U which has a game pad. I'm going to borrow it and set it up and stick to games that can make do without the game pad.

If you want a full Wii U, you can buy a refurbished one. Comes with a 1 year warranty from Nintendo.
This is a link to it on ebay. These are sold by Nintendo itself but through ebay. You dont get a game pad stand, that's the only difference that I can tell as opposed to buying straight retail but it will have you up and running within minutes.

This is a link to one directly though Nintendo. No paypal necessary. It is white with 32gb internal. I have seen black ones before but cant find it now. Maybe they rotate them.

You will need a game pad to set things up. You cannot set up the console without it. But once set up, as long as you stick to games that work without the game pad, you can manage. I have to buy my own consoles with my own money. When my parents bought my consoles I always bought it new from the store within weeks of release. Now things are different. I will play the wii u without the game pad till the game pad prices fall to within reasonable levels. People can say that the console is crippled (which it probably is) without the game pad but I dont see anyone handing me a Benjamin so that I can afford to buy a game pad.

You can't set up Wi-Fi without gamepad and you would need that to run homebrew. Maybe, just maybe, you can use a LAN adapter and then procceed to use HID-to-Vpad. The Wii U can't be formated to the set up screen either.

You are silly. If it is without a gamepad then Nintendo would released a Wii U without a gamepad for a cheaper price. So, no, it is require no matter what.

You are silly. Nintendo would never release a Wii U without a gamepad for a cheaper price because that would defeat the point of the Wii U.

No, you don't understand. I said an "IF" and of course, they wouldn't released a Wii U without a gamepad. I know because they are cheapskate. :)

We got from "The WiiU that's this new tablet controller for the Wii, right?" to "Can I get a WiiU without the tablet controller". Is that now an improvement?
Nintendo: It really seems as you got the marketing slightly wrong...

I wonder if that was the point of game streaming
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    But it's a dead end
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@Psionic Roshambo, people who cant download it can still play the game
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

@BigOnYa, i only have like 1 or 2 mb sec

Did you feed the hamster in your internet router? It prob died and is running slow now.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, why did you start saying my pc has a hamster in the first place?

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
