Hacking Best way to backup a PS3?

I just want to backup the "games" folder on the internal HD, the folder where game updates and install data are located. It will allow me to copy the folder but not paste it on an external drive (using MultiMAN). Is the PS3 Backup tool the only way to do it or is there some custom firmware that might make it easier?

I am running the latest Rebug/Cobra, in case that matters.
