Whats the best HDMI soultion for game cube right now?
I know of:

Badass Consoles's GCVideoX @ ~100USD Not Released, Adapter
KNJN FPGA (Pluto-IIx XC3S200 HDMI) @~70USD, Hardmod install
ZXP Cables's GC VIDEO @~100USD 3D Printed Adapter

Is there any others that are possibly cheaper and better? I want to mod/upgrade my two gamecubes

There all powered by gcvideo code so they are all pretty much the same at the moment.

For plug in adapters, my opinion is Badassconsole > IBCTEK GCPlug > Eon GCHD > ZXP PnP 3.0. Badassconsole and GCHD has a molded plug which is superior to the 3D printed ones from the other two. Badassconsole is first in my list as there is some personal code changes to gcvideo and its firmware should be easily updatable. However, people has been waiting for years now for his product to launch. Eon and ZXP has glued case which makes updating the firmware difficult.

For soldered hardmod it's all a matter of preference. There's not many assembled options I'm aware of. GCDual would have a clean installation without removing the digital port. The DAC for gcvideo-lite I believe is now obsolete. Shuriken Video doesn't have that great of a mounting solution.

Plug in adapters (no soldering):
GCPlug (open source design, 3D printed plug/case):
- IBCTEK's GCPlug (eBay) - HDMI - $108 to $120 shipped
- ZXP PnP V3.0 - HDMI - $100 + S/H?
Eon's GCHD - HDMI - $125 to $150 (Varies)
- Adapters are sold everywhere, great marketing/packaging, molded plug and case.
Badass Console GCVideo X & X2 - HDMI & HDMI/Analog - $100 & $130 + S/H
- Still in beta testing. Unknown release date, price may change upon launch. molded plug and case.

Solder required (hardmods):
GCDual - HDMI/Analog - $120, $150 w/ installation + S/H
KNJN's Pluto-IIx - HDMI - $60 + S/H
- Goes great with collingall's 3D printed PCB mount - $10 shipped (eBay, cheaper in bulk) or 3D print your own

Open source board layouts (requires getting PCB manufactured, sourcing of parts, assembly of board, and installation)
citrus3000psi's offerings:
- GCHDMI - HDMI output
- GCDual - HDMI/Analog output
- GCPlug - HDMI output, adapter style
- GCMax - HDMI/Analog output, adapter style

Shuriken Video - HDMI output
gcvideo-lite - Analog output

I see thanks for the help! I might want to build my own plug.

I'm looking to get one as a gift as well, EonGCHD looks good.
Does upgrading firmware really matter? What could be upgraded at this point?

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
