When I bought a Wii I was happy that it was fully backwards compatible with GameCube games and sold my GC because I didn't need it anymore, just keeping one controller (a Wavebird), a memory card and a few games I wasn't finished with. When the Wii U came along I was quite disappointed that it wouldn't fully replace my Wii due to the lack of GC support - something that a lot of people here probably empathise with but also something that's pretty much fixed thanks to Nintendont.

However, since hacking my vWii and installing Nintedont I have yet to actually play any GC games because I don't yet have any way to connect my Wavebird to my Wii U. I need to either buy a GameCube controller USB adapter, a Bluetooth controller such as a Wii U Pro controller, or a controller that connects to a Wii remote (basically using the Wii remote as a Bluetooth adapter, and I know you can get adapters that connect GameCube controllers to the Wii remote, where they act as Classic controllers).

So my question is, what's the best all-around controller combination for playing all the different kinds of games the Wii U has to offer? Obviously a GamePad for Wii U games and a Wii remote for Wii games is the bare minimum, so what's the best thing to get to play Wii U VC games, Wii VC games and GC games in Nintendont? I'd like to use my Wavebird for GC games - what's the best adapter for that and would it also work with VC games? Or am I going to end up buying an additional controller for VC? Does a Wii U Pro controller work for everything? If so, does that mean any Bluetooth controller would work for everything (as I've got an Xbox One Bluetooth controller on the way for use with my PC)?

I'd like to keep using my Wavebird but I'm also looking for the most efficient setup (i.e. one controller to rule them all!). What does everyone else have and would you recommend it?

I can't tell you what the best setup is, just what I have. I've got a couple of Wii Classic Controllers, to plug into my wiimotes, because they've got the analog shoulder buttons for gamecube, and they seem to cover most other needs. I know not all Wii U games etc support them tho.

Wii U Pro Controller. Hook it up and you will be able to play Wii U/VC/eShop games. (Most games, except Paper Mario Color Splash for example, where you do excesive use of the Wii U Gamepad). For Nintendont I use the GCN Controller Adapter with a classic Gamecube controller. That's it. Now, if you wanna go multiplayer regardless of vWii or Wii U, get at least three Wiimotes + nunchuk and you' re good to go.

@Xdqwerty there is health behaviour you can add to your character, then to use a health bar is lil more complicated, google n watch a few tutorial video on it, be too hard to explain here.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, the character has the health behavior
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I know you have to create a health and health max variable. Then there is a calculation you use in code to subtract width size of the health bar. Google few vids.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, the "greenflatbar" is one of the preset health bars btw
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you can use any bar/sprite. It will just change the width. Ok good luck and have fun. I'm off to go shoot some pool at the bar. Talk to you later.
    +1
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, why does the health behavior exist if you can just use a variable?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
and nope the number still doesnt change
