I was trying to get my Brawl working on a DVD-R and this is a guide to what I did. I think it'll be useful to those who have had trouble with other methods as I did.
Not only that, but this basically allows you to squish your copy of Brawl without all the complicated stuff (Or without using the patch method if you're unable to for whatever reasons as in my case)
What You'll Need
- Trucha Signer

- Some form of HexEditor program
I use Hex Editor Neo
- Full Brawl ISO
I extracted mine with the WiiHTTP Dumper Homebrew App
- WiiGator's Backup Launcher
For playing the backup of course
- IMGBurn
You can use a different program but I'll be explaining with this one
- 1 DVD+R
- 1 DVD-R
If you're applying a patch to the game, you'll also need a program to apply the PPF Patch
I use PPFomatic
How it's done
1. Using whatever method you prefer, get a full Brawl ISO. I use the WiiHTTP Dumper Homebrew App
1A. Once you have the Brawl ISO, apply your patch file if you are patching your game.
I suggest making a copy of the ISO first just so you don't replace your only Brawl ISO
2. Download Trucha Signer linked above and get key.bin, then follow these steps from IBNobody's guide:
2.A Open up the "wiikeyset.reg" that came with the Trucha Signer in Notepad and find the section:
2.B Open the key.bin file in the hex editor of your choice
2.C Replace the "common key" line
with the contents of key.bin. For example, if key.bin was AABBCCDDEEFFAABBCCDDEEFF11223344, you would enter:
2.D Save the "wiikeyset.reg" file and merge it by double clicking on it. Click "Yes" to add it to the registry.
3. Run Trucha and go to Select Keyset on the menu bar. Then select "Custom Keyset 1"
4. Go to Image and then Open ISO and open your Brawl ISO
5. Expand the Disc by double clicking it or by clicking the + icon
6. Right click on the first Partition and click Trucha Sign It, then do the same for the second partition
7. Now with IMGBurn, click Write Image file to Disk. Open your now signed Brawl ISO and burn it to a DVD+R. I burn at 4x speed. If it says there isn't enough space, just tell it to continue anyway. When it runs out of space, tell it to finalize the file
8. Using IMGBurn again, click Create Image file from Disk and get an image from the DVD+R you just burned
9. Open Trucha signer again and sign both partitions (Like in step 6) of the new ISO that you ripped from the DVD+R
10. Burn the now signed, ripped ISO to a DVD-R. Again, I use 4x
11. Enjoy your backup of Brawl
