A long time ago I installed some system file so I could use the eShop and Triforce heroes online in Gateway emunand. Gateway emunand is very outdated. Because of what I installed before, I can't run *hax, but I can still use homebrew via CIA or the Gateway card itself.

I want to update to a modern CFW solution, but I can't run *hax. I need a specific rop bin payload, but I don't remember what version my 3DS firmware is. It also reports the wrong number in the system settings due to the spoofing.

What can I do?

Thanks for the helpful answer. Unfortunately that homebrew is only available as a .3dsx. I can't use the homebrew launcher or any *hax ("The homemenu ropbin is ready.") as described above. If it were available in .3ds or .cia it might fix my problem.

Here :) I think if you are on 9.2, you can press A, but if you aren't on 9.2, A won't work. So you have to press X, let it write 'installed_titles.log' to the root of your sd card, which will tell you the versions of each title on your NAND :) You can then just compare the versions with the list here and see what titles version doesn't match the version of your 3ds in system settings.

Alternatively, you might be able to just install an update pack using SysUpdater, which will either downgrade or update your system cias depending on the pack you use :) However, I don't know if this will work on a Gateway EmuNand.

A doesn't work, but I was on at least 9.4 for emunand and I believe 9.0.0 for system nand. After I press X it just kind of freezes. It says it's writing but hangs there for a loooong time, and there doesn't seem to be a .log anywhere. Is it trying to write to a directory that doesn't exist?

Thanks a bunch for your help though, and it's great to see this useful tool in cia form.

A bit of an update. The .3ds file didn't work either. Gateway emunand supports 11.3 so I finally updated it to that. After updating, the cia still doesn't work.
I don't really need to switch to the modern CFW setup at the moment, but I believe updating the gateway emunand has cleared up the *hax issues. I haven't tried it though because I don't have any need to run *hax; cia homebrew is good for now.

Thanks again for your help @Slattz ! :)

Not being able to run hax is troubling. Go to sysnand and not into gateway mode. It should be an unpatched system as any permanent modification must either be properly encrypted/signed or you will brick (unless using A9LH) gateways a9lh however is buggy and likely to cause issues. If you still can't use *hax then you likely have the wrong payload. Also you could try using the hblauncher loader from yellows 8 just make sure you use the payload for your current system version not the one you "spoofed to" BTW how did you "spoof" the system firm version doesn't need a spoof to enable shop and online play... It simply needs the titles related and any dependencies to be the latest versions.

Thanks for the reply @mikey420 . I knew what I was doing at the time I set it up, but my memory on the subject now is a bit fuzzy. I installed specific CIAs from the NUS so I could use the eshop on a firmware less than current. "Spoofed" is the wrong word. NVr or CVr or tiger or something. I totally don't have that info at hand.

You're right that my issue with *hax was the wrong payload. I had trouble identifying what payload to use, and was not willing to try them all one at a time.

Everything should be good now that I updated Gateway emunand. I can't forsee any titles in the future that will require me to switch to proper CFW. I'm kind of copping out yeah but I don't want to spend an afternoon re-hacking the thing for no measurable benefit. If it happens though then I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
