I haven't seen anything about them that indicates they are significantly different or improved over previous releases. Maybe, will need to see more.

There are few games I am willing to pay Launch prices for anyway. BotW/MK8DE/Splatoon 2 are it in the near future for me. I support developers by keeping the used game market from cratering. :)

LOL there ya go. Full disclosure - I am software developer, so I like to hear that sort of thing ;) "significantly different" was the metric I was looking for. :)

at least unbricking will be easier when people buy the gateswitch clones with the emmc being detachable:P
Yeah that seems an interesting choice on their part...
*EDIT:* After thinking on it a bit, if the whole thing is encrypted with something burned in at the factory and the writes use something like APPL's Address Randomization scheme, they would not care. Every single one of them would be unique.

yeah but as with the 3ds if you have a raw dump even though it's encrypted, unless they have some form of anti downgrade feature (which is possible, we will have to wait and see) restoring a old backup from the same system would be possible.

although I'm wondering if there may be another chip somewhere for the firmware to be housed similar to the wii u, and the emmc is only going to be used for user content.....this would make more sense for them socketing the emmc chip so they can change sku's easily by simply switching the size of the emmc on board, which if that's the case with any luck there isn't any restrictions on it and it can be swapped out or allow third party boards with larger chips etc

Very true - I had my "reverse engineer" hat on and was thinking of how to make byte-comparison type hacking/patching attempts utterly useless :)

Now *that's* a warranty-voiding aftermarket upgrade product you got right there, heheh. It is likely as well they are going with a Japanese outfit for the emmc so the question would be what is the largest directly-replaceable package that could slot in there that folks would be willing to void their warranty for, that is competitive with an equal or greater amount of high-speed micro sdxx. I picked up a legit (gotta be sure because fraud) 256GB Samsung for less than $200 today. The crappier ones are sure to cost less in 4 months, so i dunno :)

I still expect someone to make a custom cable with the adapter essentially in the cable, playing the tv while holding the switch in your hands.

Reasons being the damn joycon dock that comes with the system don't charge the joycons. Gotta plug them into the system. Joycons die, gotta recharge them and can't play.

playing in handheld while outputting to the tv, would be a bit weird due to having long cables. HDMI and power cord running to the tv.

But then again you could also just buy a usb c patch cable and mount it to the dock and run that to the switch whereever you sit
20. Hour. Battery. Life.

I effing hope no one's using the Joycons for 20 hours straight

No one, but thats not what is being said.
If you play a game for 3hrs a day for a week then your be at 21hours at the end of the week.
IF you only play it in TV mode with the joycons either in the grip or free handed. Your lose your charge and the joycons will die mid game.
This is the reason i brought a charging grip. I plan to use the switch mostly in tv mode, and the joycons wont charge in handheld mode unless its charging.

If you look at the back there's one that's kinda like that.
Though it seems unlikely that they'd go with this. It'd just increase cost.

I think the point is many of us plan to dock the joyless cons to the Switch at the end of the day/playtime so every morning they will be fully charged. For those that don't want to do that the charging grip is handy to have.

But you still have to plug a cable into the Charging Grip to charge the Joyless Cons. So if having to deal with another floppy cable is easier for you than sliding them into the Switch, have a it. Play your way. :D

Yea i under stand this but the cable would only be there until the joycons are charge.
So if your in a middle of a game and they go dead you cab pop them in the charge grip. Charge while you play then when you turn off the system the joycons will charge overnight, so the next day you can go cableless.

But thats the think. There is so many ways to play everyone will be different.

You could probably have 2 joycon sets. One always dock and the others free. When the free one die swap them for the dock ones.

Also i wonder if they will die at different rates.
The wii mote battery would die fastee if the nunchuck was conntected but it was still one controller.
The joycons are 2. It would be crazy if the right die but the left had 2hrs left lol.

i'm looking forward to "ultra-lazy" mode, with a joycon in each hand, and my hands just plopped down on the couch. I can play with minimal effort!
I would actually really like this. One of the things I like about the presentation.

I at least expected some hardware that helped the switch on 1080p on the big screen ;/
Well there's the power, that can allow the Switch to run at a higher CPU frequency, allowing for better graphics than in portable mode? Just a thought.
