Hey guys, I'm after the best picture quality for the Gamecube. Sadly I have a PAL GC so 480P support was stripped from the software and GC component cables are super expensive so my next best option is my PAL Wii with GC support. I have component cables for the Wii and was wondering if I soft modded the Wii(PAL) to be able to play NTSC Gamecube games, will I have the option to enable the progressive scan 480P mode? Will it run just like an NTSC game in 60htz and full screen? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Honestly, the Wii doesn't put out that great of a picture. The Wii's component output is only slightly better than the GameCube's S-Video.
As for the question, Nintendont is your best bet. I couldn't tell you how well it would work, though. I've never dealt with a PAL Wii.

you will need a wii component cable, wich is cheap.. but i think you will be able to use 480p, at least there is an option for it...

Yeah, you'd have to just bite the bullet if you intend to get them. I'm using S-Video on my GameCube instead right now. I was thinking about making a set of component cables, though, since they were reverse engineered.
I played a few NTSC GC games on my pal wii via cfgloader - and it seemed like the output was 480p and 60Hz, even with just the composite cable.
Yes, it looks quite good, especially when compared to pal games on a tube. But nontheless they are still GC games, so don't expect wonders to happen to the textures and all.
But (!) - I find the upscaling on my rather old LG TV to be one of the best I've ever seen tbh, so I can't say with certainty that it'll look great on yours. ._.

Welp. Looks like I have borked my wii sometime in the past, since it refuses to launch GC games. Neither original games nor backups will launch now ._.

Yes with Wii component cables you'll get NTSC/60hz/480p GC games running no problems .
With a Wii RGB cable you'll get the red image you've probably heard about, so that's a no. Even if the picture was ok, you'd only get 480i anyway.
With composite you'll get the games running sure, but only a 480i image.
Yes you'll have to softmod your Wii to get your GC NTSC games working - THINK there's a homebrew program called tinyload which will run them from disc too..(been a while, I've gone usb!) Alternatively you can run the games from hard drive/sd card, which can be done in a few ways, including ripping your own copies. Using them from the hard drive will not only give you the option of playing in 480p on supported games, but with the likes of Nintendont you can even force it in games that didn't support it.

are you really sure? that is 480p, using the yellow cable?
i dont' really think the standard rca (yellow cable) supports it,
please triple check it... i really find hard to believe that

I was worried cause I bought a brand new PAL Wii with GC compatibility. Great to know the NTSC games won't be gimped. Now just have to sort out the softmod. This hard drive alternative sounds interesting though. Just an external hard drive?
SD card works too, though you might be limited depending on the size of course: if all you're after doing is a handful of GC games then you'll be fine with a 16Gb as GC are 1.35Gb each when transferred over (less if you feel you have to compress them - Luigi's Mansion for instance is about 200Mb)... if of course you fancy doing the same with some Wii games and/or emulators etc, then of course even a 32Gb isn't going to go too far... Depends what you want to do really (I'd also recommend a class 10 sd if for example you're going for a 16Gb one)

Did not know that.. In essence one could save ALOT of money going down that route instead of re-purchasing the games in NTSC format...

YES a PROPERLY softmodded Wii can play games of ALL region in any video format.
I suggest using modmii by XFlak to get the files asn guidance to softmod your Wii.
For gamecube games use Nintendont instead of DiosMios.
I use USB loader GX as it's hassle free, Fully loaded, and looks awesome.
A big plus is that all avaiable options and settings canbe done, from it's "nintendo-ish" gui.
Get a Component cable for your Wii!
Make sure your TV support component inputs.
This will give your the best possible image for your wii and will enable you to display games from ALL regions in 480I or 480p.
also resolutions of 240p are supported if your tv can handle them ( megaman x collection and various hamebrew emulators ).
Contrary to what some trolls told you in this thread, Component , gives you a FAR better image that S-video or RGB on an lcd tv.
Also, there are many, many manufactures of these cables but get the OFFICIAL nintendo ones if you can!
