The Wii U's GamePad controller stands out as a hallmark of innovation, offering players a range of memorable experiences that redefine traditional gaming. For many, the GamePad's versatility unlocked new dimensions of immersion and interactivity. From the convenience of off-TV play, where gamers could seamlessly transition from the TV screen to the handheld GamePad, to the dynamic multiplayer experiences in titles like Nintendo Land, the GamePad fostered connections and camaraderie among players. Its touchscreen capabilities introduced novel gameplay mechanics, enhancing titles like Pikmin 3 and Super Mario Maker with intuitive controls and creative possibilities. Moreover, the GamePad's unique features, such as its built-in microphone and camera, facilitated social interactions, enabling voice chat and video calls during gaming sessions. Whether sketching level designs in Super Mario Maker or strategizing in Splatoon, the GamePad left an indelible mark on the gaming landscape, shaping unforgettable moments that continue to resonate with players today.

When I got my WiiU and played BOTW, I hadn't yet purchased Pro Controller and had only Gamepad. I quickly found out I could aim with Gyro and it was my first experience with gyro aiming. I was blown away. It felt so intuitive and easy to aim quickly and precisely. Few months later, I got my first Pro Controller and I was disappointed with lack of gyro aiming. Aiming with analog felt crude and awkward. Because of its bulkiness, I haven't used gamepad since and solely use pro controller now. But that first gyro aiming really left an impression on me.

My long distance partners laptop broke around 2015 and for a month or two his only access to the internet was via the Wii U and I remember spending most of my free time video chatting with him on the gamepad. Money was tight for us both so I just sucked it up and tried to keep him entertained (drawing on each others faces.. and writing on the screen to communicate) for hours. I never complained even though it got boring quick :rofl2: and I'm glad I toughed it out because looking back it's lowkey a cute and happy memory. I was pretty sad when they shut down the video chat feature. Nowadays when I load up my Wii U it makes me feel nostalgic about that time and when they shut down the wi-fi servers recently I didn't care because nothing else on the Wii U topped those memories for me

Well you have taught me something there, I had no idea you could ever video chat on the Wii U!

It's kinda crazy how on the DS you could voice chat when trading Pokemon, video call on the Wii U, yet online functionality / communication on the Switch still seems so primitive.

Great story :)
