Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone has had any success modding (specifically adding maps) to the Jedi Academy port that was recently released on the switch. I've already gone ahead and dumped the game for RomFS and it's essentially just the PC version (similar to Jedi Outcast) however custom maps are unable to load. I know LayeredFS only loads existing files (not added ones, at least as I understand it), but I was hoping there was a solution similar to how Skyrim works (ini editing which then allows the files to load), of course I haven't seen anything in the config files that would accomplish this...but maybe (re: hopefully) someone else has. I used to love the modding scene for JA back when it was "new" so I was hoping to bring some of that nostalgia on the switch...

This isn't just essentially PC. It lacks assets for settings like dismemberment. It has config files hardcoded in exefs.
You would need to provide what settings should I change to have custom maps enabled.

But only in next week.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And layeredfs can load also not existing files.

Oh really? Well that's why I asked, hoping someone with more knowledge would step in! So the config files themselves are actually embedded in exefs rather than just pointing to a romfs location? And I'm not even sure what setting it could be, the PC version automatically loads new levels if you copy over the .pk3 to the install dir or extract the .pk3 and add the contents to the game's assets.pk3 file(s). I didn't see anything in the inis that would indicate custom map loading but I'll take another look.

...and that's great information about layeredfs, I was searching around for an answer but couldn't find anything. Thanks masagrator!

if people still trying i've had some success with models, sounds n levels working on switch. i just dumped the romfs and extracted the .pk3s and put contents into game files. so far everything works. almost everything can go to assets1 folder but the sound folder goes assets0 i think, works so far anyway.

Maps? How would you load them in game though? Without launch parameters/arguments or access to console commands

Huh? The original poster asked is it possible to add modded content to the switch version and this guy responded with;
"If people are still trying" (acknowledging the age of the thread)

"Yes it is. I have had some success with it."

dumped all romfs options from base and updates and trial n error replacing files till something worked. stopped after that coz started goin all in on stardew. in swja i could change some npcs for sp but mp has seperate character files, player character broke everytime i tried to add or replace race but could still play as the mess that rendered, mp maps some mp maps work but sp maps and story alteration i got nowhere, i tried to figure out how to enable console commands since keyboard n mouse controls still work but the ~ key didnt do anything though the option to enable is there.

I should mention i aint a competent modder, i modded fallout 3 n NV when i had pc that could run it back in 2012, in that i had help. i aint modded nothin since bar some light ds/3ds translations.
the shit i've been tryin this year is beyond me to understand, especially understanding code and anything that requires a decent pc to achieve, im was probably attempting something dum but i just want to see how far i can take my switch after my few small successes. sorry if wrote too much

You can backup your save file, which includes the games config file, edit it on PC and restore it and change some game settings.

I got dismemberment and realistic combat working on JK2 😍

Oh,
Make sure to have,

seta helpUsObi "1"

This enables cheats. And the saber stuff I think are classified as cheats.

As for the saber values. There's a few depending on what you want.

I followed this little guide here

Realistic combat changes the game balance by killing everything even the stronger dark Jedi in basically one touch.

So I used g_dismemberment "11381138" (keep saber balance but enable cutting off limbs)
g_saberrealisticcomvat "0" for normal balance.

But you can use whichever you like.
