Hacking cios 249 download error ret = -1 help please

So yeah, i can't figure out what the ret = -1 code means and how to fix it. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but i can't seem to find using the search function since it has its... limitations.
I've read somewhere that there's a corrupt file somewhere inside the wii or something that's out of place. If true, any of you guys know how to figure what that file is? Or am I dealing with another kind of beast altogether?
Quick help would be very much appreciated, but I'm patient and will just keep clicking refresh/f5/ctrl+r to see if anyone posts (something constructive, hopefully) any info about the error I'm encountering..

PS, it's not my wii... annoying that i can't figure out what the error is. If it were mine, i will probably know exactly what's screwed up...

Error -1 means that there's an SD issue.

thanks for the very helpful tip! worked like a charm... hmm. still, would like to know what triggered that error (what was wrong with my sd) since i worked on my bro's wii just before that one and had no problems whatsoever...

Error 1: SD/USB Loader Error Hardware not recognized. Most likely have a cIOS installed incorrectly, out of date, or missing. Possibly forematted the SD card or USB incorrectly, is unsupported, or not enough space.

Q. I have formatted the device correctly and have cIOS36 rev8+ but I am getting this error, how would I fix this?
A. Be sure to have the device hooked up to the Wii before you power it on. You may lack USB support as well. Installing cIOS38 rev14 would clear this up.

sometimes when you eject the SD unproperly, it creates errors in the files, and makes this ERROR to be displayed, easier than reformat it is just to fix the error by opening a cmd line and typing:

chkdsk f: /f

f: would be your SD, and then just tells yes to fixing the error...!!
