I have been looking everywhere and just can't find any concrete advice regarding this.

I am setting up an External 2TB HDD for Wii U - intending to use it for GC, Wii VC injections and WII-U Backups. How should I format this hard drive? I was looking to format it as FAT32 64k cluster however whenever I hook up the hard drive with the Wii U it asks to reformat the drive.

Is there an exploit I can use? Or can I just use the Wii U formatted HDD? What are the steps I need to take to prep this? Has anyone else done this before? Would appreciate any help you have. Thank you.

You have to format it with the Wii U which is it's own format, no choice if you want to use Wii U backups. But you can make injections for GC/Wii to work on that hard drive with Wii U.

Here's a hack guide I suggest reading it from beginning to end https://wiiu.hacks.guide/#/

There's two hacks one involves using a web browser each time but I recommend buying a cheap ds game (Brain Age) and installing Haxchi over it then you don't have to use the web browser again. The guide covers both options.

Here is the GC/Wii injection tool https://gbatemp.net/threads/release...homebrew-support.483577/page-351#post-9123349\

Keep in mind since you're using a big hard drive there's a limit of 300 icons on the Wii U menu, no way around it. There's already 9 icons that can't be deleted so that means you can have 291 games total, unless you want to put your Wii/GC games on a 2nd hard drive on vWii you could do that in addition to the 291 For people that want "every game" it's not happening at least on the Wii U menu. You probably won't be able to fill up that 2 TB before the 291 limit unless you are going after almost every Wii U game, Wii/GC games are a lot smaller games in size. I reached the limit with a 750 gb hard drive, but I have a lot of small games such as N64/DS and each game counts as 1 space of the 291 regardless of size.

Thanks for the response! I already hacked my wii u with cold haxchi. I guess I was just under the impression that I would be able to load backups direct to the hdd and install from there similar to the original wii. But the more I've read now I feel like I need to either use an ftp or transfer games to the SD card, then install them to the hdd later. This seems like a bit of a pain but I guess if I'll be injecting my gamecube and wii games then this shouldn't be much worse.

I guess a follow up question would be what is the correct format for backed up Wii U games, where do I put them on the SD card in order to install them via WUP installer gx2. I've seen wux files and loadiine folders for games but have no idea how to convert to a playable format on my Wii U. Do you know if any converters for these? or do any of these files work?

Thanks again for the help and your quick response.

Hello,

Best method, use usb helper launcher ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/working-fix-easy-install-wii-u-usb-helper-0-6-1-655.535214/

The different game formats ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-different-wiiu-games-formats-and-how-to-convert-them.449212/

Yes! I actually found usb helper earlier this morning but saw that it was discontinued. Downloaded it anyway and it seems to be working! As for the game fortmats.... whoa that is a lot of information. Gonna have to piece through that. Thank you for the help again! Really appreciate it.

    Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.

    But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
