I am not sure if it would be safe for me to order a new one straight off of Amazon or if I should get a second hand one off of eBay

you need to look for a low serial number to assure RCM payload injection works.

There is a sticky post that has info on serial number ranges.

I think it is unlikely that you will get a new switch from ebay that still is vulnerable to RCM payload injection.

I asked sellers on ebay first. Most didn't respond but those that did eventually led to a legit unpatched console. Good luck

Sent from my toaster running Rebug

If you live in Australia. My local target store has 5 switches on 1.00 firmware.

I'll be down under in December, but I'm assuming the pricing is probably inflated, even with good USD exchange rate.

I recently picked up on OfferUp a full set minus joy-cons for under $200. Not the best deal, but since I already had a spare set of joy-cons and a Pro controller, it was worth it to me. Sold the extra dock on eBay, and I got a essentially brand new tablet for less than $150. And I lucked out as it was on 3.0.0, so I'm hacking that one, and keeping my main legit one for Nintendo Online and my legit cartridges and eshop purchases.

But like others have said, just shop locally so you can either test it first before you buy, or verify by serial #.

Wait for another 15% off eBay coupon. They usually announce them the day before. Search through Switch BIN listings that actually show the serial number. You can even submit and have the offer accepted before the coupon goes live as long as you pay for the item during the promo period.

Yeah most likely price is $400AU for base pack with no games included. I picked one up last week and made them go through all of them to pick the lowest serial.
